use to belive the earth was flat and presecuted astronimists for believing otherwise... I know it was a more mainstream religion, but i cant remember which one.

I believe it was not just a religion but the Vatican that was making the rules. The answer you probably want is the Roman Catholic Church.

Catholic. It was the Vatican that banned most science discoveries. Christianity doesn't have a "head of state" like the Catholic Church does.

IT WAS NOT CHRISTIANITY. IT WAS CATHOLICISM. CHRISTIANITY IS TO VAGUE AND THE REAL BRANCH AND MAINSTREAM RELIGIONS THAT DID NOT CONDONE THIS WAS THE CATHOLICS.

ACCORDING TO RECENT RESEARCH AND MY PROFESSOR AT MY UNIVERSITY IT WAS THE CATHOLICS WHO BELIEVED THIS WAY AND PERSECUTED PEOPLE FOR THIS.
