It depends on where you meet them and how long you talked to them. I think you should talk a long time on the internet and then the phone and when you do meet it should be in a public place with someone with you. There are lots of liars and nuts on the internet so please be safe if you decide to meet someone.

If you're a minor child....it is NEVER a good idea to meet someone from the internet. NEVER!

If you are an adult here's some advice from my own experiences....

I've met many people from various dating sites over the years and actually met my current boyfriend of over a year on lavalife. Normal people do use the internet for meeting potential mates. Having said that....always remain cautious and safe.

-when you initially "meet" someone on-line, establish an on-line rapore before heading to that face to face meeting
-get as much background information as you can not only to verify who they are but also to establish whether or not you would even be interested in meeting this person
-have a few phone conversations....but don't use your home number...always use a cell number
-exchange photographs so you know what the other person looks like
-never give out your home address and avoid giving out your last name until you know for sure the individual is who they say they are (you can't begin to imagine how many married idiots are on-line looking for a date)
-ALWAYS meet in a public place and make sure you've told someone where you are going to be
-don't set up dinner and a movie for a first encounter. Keep it to a simple cup of coffee or ice cream just to get a feel for someone's character
-FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS...if something doesn't feel right don't be afraid to say "thanks but no thanks"

people are people just cause you met someone on the internet doesn't make them bad just be extra careful the anonymity offered by the internet seems to attract all the freaks of the world, if you meet some one in person then make sure it is somewhere very public, with lots of people and that you have your own means of getting home if things don't work out, if possible arrange a group activity so you can bring some friends

I'm glad you are aware that there is a danger to meeting someone you've chatted with online in real life. I know you've heard it before, but it bears saying again - there are many pedophiles, creeps, and unsavory characters out there.

If you absolutely must meet someone you've met online, and I advise against it, then tell them you would like to meet them in a public place WITH your parents. If they mean you no harm, they shouldn't have a problem with that, but if they are up to no good they will try to get you alone. Stay away from the situation.

No one ever thinks that something bad will happen to them, but bad things happen all the time. It's much better to be safe.

Think twice and remember what I wrote.

i've heard good things, but i know i had a very bad experience from this!!!! the guy is in prison now for beating the crap out of me! seriously!! be very careful, and you cannot be too careful. never meet them alone, and make sure plenty of people know where you are. get to know this person for a while before you're alone with them! people can act like what you want, and they do find a way to find out your likes and dislikes and feed on that, but they cannot keep it up for a long period of time...their true self comes out after a time!

to me...the guy was great, and we talked A LOT before i met him. i found out soon that he could have a quick temper, but he would smile and laugh it off, and heck i can have a temper too...so, i overlooked this. but, one day he asked me if he could borrow some money, and when i told him, "no, sorry, but i don't have any," he 'snapped' and all hell broke loose!!! i honestly thought i was going to die, but i fought and got away, and called the police! it was more than that, but i've said more than enough...my point is, 'PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL!!!' you really don't know who you're meeting, and if the person is a good person, they will wait and understand!!!

i know several people that has had good experiences with people they meet online. 2 of my good friends has actually married the people they me online. I have another friend that has had some really bad date, and some that he was interested in. My only suggestion to you is be careful, there is a lot of weird people out there. Never let them pick you up at home, always meet them out in public. If you get a bad feeling about them, trust you instinct and get out.

If I ever met anyone off the internet I would meet at a public place. Like a mall or something. Walk around and talk. If he gives you the creeps then just leave.

Do you even watch the news? You know how much people have gotten kidnapped, raped and killed because of meeting people online?

If you are going to meet someone make sure you carry someone with you and they never leave you alone with the person. I think doing that is a bad idea cause you are risking your life.
