I practice breathing in a quiet room for one, and secondly I have it worked out with my Admin that if i need a cat nap I call it "Alphing" and I allow that I will work longer, tho they have never made me do it. i lay down and take a cat nap. I swear by this, from 20 to 40 minutes and it is as though I have had 8 hours of sleep....i come back into my office, even LOOKING totally different, rested, refreshed and ready to rock and roll. it seems like a luxury, but it is really an investment into my health i have come to find out, I know you probably will not pick my answer, but this is honest and it has st a precedent in the company for "Alphing"~ word stemming from the Alpha state in which we sleep! We go though 4 phases and sometimes in the night we do NOT get all of what we need. I am grateful to those who allowed me to Alph, and recognized my ability once having done so, to work with a refreshed laughter and concentration...Thanks.

Relax by staying organized and owning your space. Feeling like your personality is "gently" expressed through your environment can be soothing.

Try to stay hydrated with teas, water, and the occasional soda or coffee. Herbal tea is a good thing to keep in your desk, and bullion if you like it for a quick snack.

Walking to a coworker's desk instead of emailing is a good way to relax, because our bodies don't like to be either standing still or sitting down hunched over for long periods of time.

Think about what you can do at work to shine and work on those special projects when you get a spare moment. That way, your "leisure" can also advance your career.

Finally, I would advise against taking smoke breaks, like some have recommended. Although a cigarette break is relaxing (I used to smoke), people who don't smoke sometimes feel like smokers are getting more frequent breaks than they are. Non-smoking management can sometimes have violent oppositions to smoking that come out at evaluation time. A habit of smoking, along with the habit of sharing any highly personal thing about you like your sexual orientation, religion, political orientation, or philosophies can be detrimental to being perceived as a worthy colleague by people who disagree.

I have my iPod, it cancels out any drama unfolding in the office around me, its relaxing to hear music I really like and I can focus on my job.

During breaks I try talk to others on break who I dont work directly with & talk about anything but work and crack jokes and get to know them better.

I take my lunch break away from work to run errands, that way when I leave work for the day I can relax knowing I got several things done.

I have a very stressful job. In order to relax I hum or quietly sing my own songs since I have to listen to my coworkers radios on either side of me within 25 feet of each other (2 diffierent stations and neither do I prefer) I try to talk to my partner that I work with since we get along quite well also. Last but not least I count what I'm doing and it really keeps my mind off all the other drama going on around me.

Nothing. I don't sit behind a desk, punching buttons on a computer. I work hard physical labor removing and installing wall paper, there is never time to rest because I am always under the gun to meet deadlines and always running into snags that can delay them. When I get home I am always worrying if I am going to finish by the deadline that was promised, so I don't get any rest there either. I even have to work weekends a lot of the time to meet deadline', and the weekends that I don't work, I take my five year old grandson for visitation and try to catch up with the household chores. REST , whats that???????????????????

I feel really fortunate and blessed to be in a job that I have a passion for. I "get" to go to work every day and "create". I am in the Healthcare field and I make custom braces and splints for Orthopedic patients. Every person is different and every brace is different, so I never get bored. I get to meet different people every day, and I usually am able to fabricate a device to releive thier pain, so I get lots of thanks. I also get AWAY from work on my lunch break and go take a trail run, and come back pretty chilled out and relaxed. How cool is that? To sum up your good question-my work relaxes me.
