Why should kids have a 'set' bedtime? Some days they're tired, some days they're not.. why should they be sent to bed everynight at the same time.. when ever day is different?

im a step dad, we dont give them a set bed time but when we tell them to go to bed its getting late they go. if we send them too early they get restless and start getting into trouble, so its usually after 8 but usually always before 9.

I love having my son on a regular routine. Of course, there are days where we could be a little diverted from his set schedule...that's life. But for the most part he goes to bed at 9:00 PM and is up for the day by 8:00 AM (except days when he goes to daycare, so he's up just before 7:00). My son has been on his routine since he was 4 months old (he's 15 months right now). I also plan on keeping the baby that I'm currently pregnant with on a consistent schedule.

The child's concept of time is : TIME spent with me = LOVE. They only care about the amount of time you spend with them, not the amount of time they get to sleep.

Good luck to you!

Children, in order to grow and thrive to their full potential, should get eight to ten hours of sleep a night. Everybody has to wake up at a certain time of day, whether they're adults or children. For instance, in my house, we wake up at 6:30 in the morning because I need to take my daughter to my mom's house so she can catch the bus to school, then I head to work. If she didn't get to bed at 8:30 every night, she would be getting less sleep than that. I've found through experimentation that this is the optimum time to put her to bed. If she goes any later, she is miserable and screams and cries when she wakes up and is awful all day. An 8:30 bedtime keeps her happy and cheerful all day because she's had a good rest, and my daughter's happiness is important to me.

i understand what you are saying but the idea is to have a routine for the children because structure really does help them.

if they go to bed a little later than normal no big deal. but children do not do well on schedules that are all over the place.

just consider you know your child and you care enough to ask so if you have a bedtime at 9 and sent them to bed earlier when they are tired and later when they are not no big deal. your children still has the structure because you dont let them run around til they pass out for bedtime ;)

Because children thrive on routine. The body needs to sleep and wake at the exact same time in order to be healthy. Don't believe me? Read some books on the subject.

Second, children need boundries. If you keep letting them stay up it'll start getting later and later that they go to bed.

Because children need a routine. They also require more sleep than adults. This is really important when they start school so starting the routine now makes for an easier transition for them.

If they go to bed and wake up the same time every day, their body gets used to the schedule and it makes things better for everyone.

Children thrive on consistency!!! My son goes to bed every night at 7:00pm I hear him in there playing until he finally falls asleep. They need a little alone time to unwind. Good luck.

It keeps them on a routine. It is best to keep it the same time and get them on a schedule. It makes it easier when it is time to send them to school.

Because children in general like to know what's expected of them and prefer a routine.
