I'm sure you will do great! Talks are always a little scary, but a wonderful learning experience - Good Luck!

As has been suggested, the topical guide and the church website are good places to start. I used to hate giving sacrament talks, but they do help to build up confidence- I can speak in front of groups of people now without getting the nausea inducing sheer panic that I had pre-young womens lessons.
I don't know if anyone else has suggested this, but pray for guidance and direction. With the Lord on your side, you can't fail.

I just went to www.lds.org, clicked on Gospel Library, went to Guide to the Scriptures, then in the alphabet, clicked on 'c', then scrolled down to Consecrate, Law of Consecration.

I don't know if this will help, because I haven't read it, but there seems to be a lot of scriptural references and further links.

If you get stuck talk about consecration for 2 mins, then give your testimony of the church for the rest of the time. Also, it won't matter too much if you don't use the whole of your 5 minutes, I'm sure other speakers will be able to fill in the the time.

The Hymn book also lists Commitment, sacrifice and service as other headings to look at when looking for consecration, and I'm sure you these are more familiar subjects for you.

I hope that I've helped, sweetie.
Good luck for Sunday, I've already offered up a prayer on your behalf.

Our English word “consecrate” really translates a group of Hebrew words which literally mean “fill the hand”, that is to say, put full power in the hand of those who are to serve in office. In picture of this the ram of consecration was killed and cut up and parts of it together with certain baked goods from the basket of consecration were put by Moses upon the hands of Aaron and his sons and were waved before Jehovah. After that the things waved were burned “on the altar upon the burnt-offering: they were a consecration [an installation-offering, AT] for a sweet savor: it was an offering made by fire unto Jehovah”. (Ex. 29:19-25; Lev. 8:22-28, AS) The Greek Septuagint translation literally renders the Hebrew expression, “fill (or complete) the hand”; but modern translators or translations like Moffatt, An American Translation, Crampon and Byington are inclined to render it “install”. The Latin Vulgate, the Catholic Douay Version, and Young render it “consecrate the hand”. When God chooses and calls us for his service and then fills our willing hands and puts power in their possession, so empowering us, we have authority indeed from the right source and we can act with confidence, for God backs us up.

Go to the church webpage, click on the Search button at the top, and type in "consecration under the "Gospel Library" space. There are a ton of articles and talks about it there. Seriously, don't get any information about your talk from Yahoo Answers. Go to the official source.

This is a cool way to collect a talk.

But I think they want a Mormon bent to it:

"The Lord revealed several purposes for the law of consecration: to bring the Church to stand independent of all other institutions (D&C 78:14); to strengthen Zion, adorning her in beautiful garments, as a bride prepared and worthy of the bridegroom (D&C 33:17; 58:11; 65:3; 82:14, 18; etc.); and to prepare the Saints for a place in the Celestial Kingdom (D&C 78:7)." Begin with the Topical Guide in your quad; that will be a good start for you. If you have Bruce R. McConkie's Mormon Doctrine, that will help too.

Look up the word in the dictionary and that should give you a better understanding for your topic.

Good luck.

Well, go to lds.org, you can search for talks, Ensign articles, etc...and as for being really nervous, just make sure you're prepared, then you have no reason to be nervous!

This is not the best place to ask. These people aren't very found of the LDS church. Sorry. I wish I could help but I don't know all that much about consencration. Sorry, good luck.
