Leprosy is caused by an micro organism known as Lepra bacilli, it spreads through droplet infection means bacteria enter the body through respiration, & if the body resistant is low the disease develops, but 99% of humen population is immune to the disease.Leprosy still exists in some countrieslike Africa, Japan ,indonesia, Bragile, Bangla desh,Pakistan. Nepal & india.Now a days there are very effective drugs to cure it, The drug regime is known as multi drug therapy, a combination of Rimfampicin, Dapsone & Hansepran to be consumed for 9 to 12 months period.

Leprosy is still very much alive and well. It is treatable fairly easily if diagnosed properly. It is spread much like colds and flu, through droplets etc. The chances of getting it though is remote, unless you are in frequent, everyday contact with an infected and untreated person. It is still relatively common in third world countries but there are treatment programs all over the world.

Leprosy is a contact disease. Yes, there is still Leprosy in the world today...there is treatment, but no cure.
