There are a couple you could consider. The Volkswagen with the diesel engine. I think it is the Golf? A friend of mine has one and averages about 40 mpg. The Toyota Prius hybrid advertises it gets 60 mpg in city and 51 highway, but actual figures are lower. Still, it is a great car, however, it is a newer technology so I would get an extended warranty on it. The Honda Civic is also a good choice.

I went from Dallas to Phoenix and back in a Toyota Hybrid for 35.00. Also, A 4 cyl. VW diesel would be a good choice.

Japanese Cars feed your needs. what i recommend is Honda Civic. Toyata Yaris. And those Hybrid cars. why not check out their websites.
Those Euro Cars are okay such as Beetle and Mini cooper

I assume you mean high mpg not low. ..check out the hybrids by Honda and Toyota.

15 grand will buy a Brand New Ford Focus Wagon. 37mpg highway...about 30ish in the city. Very nice comfortable ride...
