I have a friend who is 22 and she has a DUI. She has fulfilled all of her counseling and Probation obligations thus far, also paying on her fee regularly. she has never been in trouble before. She lives with a HIGHLY abusive bf and her only chance of making a life is going to Florida to stay with family. She was only sticking around to finish probation but her bf brutally beat her last night, and our cops are not very efficient lets just say. She now has no place to live. She has talked to her PO about transferring her probation to Florida to get away and he was very mean about it and told her he will not do it and added more time instead. I went with and heard the conversation. She cried to him to let her go to her only family. She is considering fleeing anyway (it is that bad) but she is a good girl and she does not want anymore trouble. What will happen if she does this? the poor girl lost her mom at 7 and her father molested her, i want her to be able to have some kind of life.

Tell her to go to an abused women's shelter. They have lawyers on staff that can help her get done what she needs done through the legal system.

The main thing she needs to do is get away from this guy. He is not going to help her straiten out her life.

Tellher to go talk to an abused women's shelter about a place to stay and helping her get away from that man. If they can't help her with the legal stuff - the can at least get her out of the abusive relationship she is in and give her some counselling to help her realize that she deserves better in life than that.

Lifeis too short to be un-happy.

Good luck to both you and your friend.

You need to contact her POs commanding officer, or supervisor above him.And talk to them about it.If she can prove she has a place to live and assistance in getting a job etc. they should transfer it.If she needs to still make a final court appearance for a judge she needs to be prepared to talk to the judge about her situation.
Also you need to make sure the police file a report about her boyfriend beating her.If they wont again talk to a supervisor ( and take photos of her) I would also take her to the hospital so there is a medical report. Doctors are required to notify of violent crimes.Get a copy of it medical report and police report.
If she leaves the state , against her probation she could end up serving time in jail.

You had me until you said the PO added more time to her just for asking to be transferred. Then you compounded that with the classic "I was there and heard it myself" line. A PO can't arbitrarily add time to someone. That's the judges decision. The PO can petition the judge for it, but would be laughed out of court under this "story".

that's terrible ;( i'm so sorry this happened to your friend. i think it would be wise for her to stay, if she leaves she will get in even more trouble if she does not cooperate with her PO even though he's such and A hole. Tell her to stick it out for a little while longer to get the law off her back. Do you think she could stay with you for a little while, or do you know anyone responsible she could stay with considering her situation? if not, do they have shelters for women there? I hope she finds a place to stay and i hope she stays away from her abusive boyfriend! Did he get away with hitting her like that?? What a low piece of scum, i hope he gets put in jail and gets *** raped!!! Either way karma will get him, it's just a matter of time. I will send positive energy your friends way. i hope she makes it thought this rough time.

Poor choices put people where they are. Drinking and Driving and picking an abusive boyfriend. Some times there is no easy way out and you have to lay in the bed you make for yourself!

Go to a TV/Radio station or newspaper where they have special reporters who like to take on theses kind of issues. Contact any local abuse shelters and maybe they can help her.

Wow. That sucks. I would tell her to contact the police again. Or the Judge who heard her case. Also, tell her to contact some shelters for abused women. They may be able to refer her to someone who can help.

In the meantime, tell her to get her CCW. I'd put a cap in his *** if I was her. : (

She needs to go to a hospital for treatment--and be honest about how it happened. They are obligated under the law to report such abuse to the authorities.

i agree. that is a really bad situation. she needs to find someone to stay with until her probation is over. she can even go to a women's shelter. if she flees and anyone finds out, she can go to jail.

That's terrible. It seems like the law would let her transfer under the circumstances.
