Touch typing is typing using the sense of touch rather than sight to find the keys. Touch typing places the eight non-thumb fingers in a horizontal row along the middle of the keyboard and has them reach for other keys. Most computer keyboards have a raised dot on either the F/J keys or the D/K keys (or the keys in the same position, for non-QWERTY keyboards) so that touch-typists can feel when their fingertips are over the correct "home row."

Touch typing is where you learn where the keys are placed on the keyboard and can type away without looking at them. You return your fingers to centre keys automatically and do exercises that gradually help you build up speed. I learnt when I was 15 and now 60+. One of the better decisions I made in life was to learn how to touch type and to do shorthand.

Touch typing is when you can type without looking at the keyboard and have few or NO mistakes. Usually requires a minimum number of words per minute.
For example, I can type 60 words per minute if I'm doing straight typing.
