I am supposing you meant who instead of how.....with that, the truth is no one really wins. Israel is proper in finally fighting back....but no tangible thing was won and people from both nations lost lives. No way to price tag that as a victory.

Are you asking "who" is the winner.
In terms of objectives met, neither. Isreal was unable to stop the attacks and Hezboallah was unable to prevent ground incursions by Israeli forces.
However, if you compare what each side has left once the fighting is over, Isreal could be called the winner. The damage cuased by the missile attacks was comparitively minor. Isreal will have little difficulty recovering from those attacks. The damage done in Lebanon was much more extensive. The damage ontop of an already unstable economic structure combine to equal many years of hard recovery ahead.
It should be noted though that the war was not between Isreal and Lebanon, but Isreal and Hezboallah. The Hezboallah group probably suffered much less than Lebanon did as a whole. The damage done to Lebanon is an example of what can happen to country that does not keep non-state groups in check.

A war like this has no winners. They fight and they return to the way things were before.
Israel killed 10 of the others for each of theirs, but what does that mean? Lebanon's economy is in shambles, Israel's is intact..
However, this war was a change from the old ways. Before, Israel's army would race across the enemy's land. It would conquer, conquer, conquer and look indestructible. This time they were slow. They didn't accomplish their goals. They didn't destroy Hezbollah, so they treat it like a defeat for Israel..
In reality, everyone lost this one.

I don’t believe either Israel or Lebanon won the battle, because Israel wasn’t fighting Lebanon per se as much as they were fighting Hezbollah, a terrorist organization, with representatives in the Lebanese government. Now if you rephrase the question to ask who was the winner of the battle between Israel and Hezbollah, I would have to say, unfortunately, it was Hezbollah. Israel defined its victory over Hezbollah on the basis of two criterion:
1.That Hezbollah completely disarm.
2.That Israel receives the two kidnapped Israeli soldiers.
Unfortunately, Hezbollah hasn’t disarmed, and I doubt will disarm. Terrorist entities rarely succumb to the pressure of foreign governments. What even makes this more of a travesty is that Israel’s failure to complete its objectives had nothing to do with lack of ability, but instead its failure was caused by international forces that meddled in affairs that many don’t understand and that they surely cannot empathize with. To add insult to injury we are beseeching Israel to practice restraint when responding to terrorist aggression, while we hypocritical arrogate to ourselves full discretion in how we mete out punishment to our enemies. Lets not forget to mention that Israel is actually responding to the REAL perpetrators of aggression against it sovereignty, while we who tell them to refrain from retaliating, are attacking a country like Iraq which has not attacked us. What right to we have to tell them how to behave? Its not like we hold the moral high ground on this issue.

Did you mean who is the winner of the war? If that is what you are asking I am going to guess that we will never know. We can't believe the media or either political party that is guaranteed. The Israel's where trying to damage the Hezbolah (SP?) and I am not sure what the Hezbolah are trying to make by starting the war and firing rockets?
It's war does anyone ever really win?

Obviously you mean who and the answer is NO ONE. Politically it became a stalemate the minute the UN brokered a cease fire.
But tell that to the some 2000 people, ON BOTH SIDES, who lost thier lives in the war. They are the losers. No political entity won but the people and humanity lost.

The real war is starting now after the ceasfire. It will be a conflict between a seriously weakened democracy and the influence of Hezbollah. It will define the face of the "new middle east". This abttelw ill not involve soldiers, but politics and pressure.

Hezbollah defeated Israel. As the new mightiest power in the middle east Hezbollah is now required to avoid ALL civilian casualties...the same standard they tried to impose on Israel. Best of Luck.
