I think the points are a form of credibility to your name. So people know who is a good person to ask or trust in their answers...Other than that..I havent a clue. If you find out another reason i am sure curious to know.

I don't know but am anxious to see any answers you may get. I think it's for the purpose of making you feel better, because if you answer questions, you'll not only help another person, but make you happier.
