Nelson Mandela.

He led a country out of darkness of apartheid. Made sure that the new government did not pursue a policy of revenge. United the divided communities with reconciliation. True hero for every respect. He even sacrificed his personal relationships (with his ex-wife Winnie Mandela) to saty tru to his convictions. His autobiography (Long walk to freedom) should be taught in every school in the world

I'm going to have to go with Bill Gates. He donates his time and money without asking for anything in return. He does not seek the spotlight and actually tends to shy away from it. He seems to genuinely want to change the world, unlike many of the current crop of "celeb-anthropists" such as Madonna, Bono, Jessica Simpson, Brad Pitt, etc who appear to be in it for more fame and attention.
