You're right - so long as you eat the rigth amount, it is not important when you eat it. Be careful though, if you eat less than your BMR (basal metabolic rate), your body will react and go into starvation mode (and your appetite will be diminished even though you do need food). You can estimate this by allowing 25 calories for every kg of your bodyweight. You should be eating between 125% and 150% of this amount daily to maintain your weight (depends how active you are
As far as three meals a day goes, many in my profession (personal trainer) would disagree. We feel that it is more important to eat little and often, allowing five smaller meals in the day rather than 3 big ones. This helps with digestion and blood sugar levels.

Eat well and enjoy!

In an ideal world you would only eat when you are hungry, I mean really hungry, and only eat enough to make you full rather than trying to eat a whole meal because you feel you have to. Three meals a day, I'm not sure where this idea came from but talking health-wise it is more like several smaller meals per day when you are hungry – I suppose the three meals a day thing comes from the sorts of hours we have at work or school, getting meals in when we can. Your body knows best, only eat when you are hungry, eating when not hungry is unnecessary and yes it will effect weight.

I dont know who came up with 3 meals a day but it all depends. You should eat when youre hungry and stop eating when youre no longer hungry (not when youre full). A lot of people dont eat breakfast because they eat so much so late at night they're still content when they wake up in the morning hours later. However it is important to understand your body, for example sometimes you may not be hungry but feel a little dizzy or sluggish. Not everyones body sends hunger pains the same...this could be a sign of hunger. Snack on something small and healthy and if you want more...eat more.

Only you really understand what your body needs and trust me your body will tell you!

I have always asked myself the same question, and that is my problem, not eating my three meals a day. Now I got a serius case of anemia. Even my period stoped suddenly.

Finally my husband convenced of trying to eat jus a little bit for breakfast, they say that this is the most important meal of the day.

Well, I started with just a toast with butter, to me it tasted bitter, but I managed to pass it through my throught. The next day, I ate a little bit more, on the 3rd. day I was hungry already, I think I got my stomach used to asking for food already, so I had my very first formal breakfast for the first time in years. I feel a lot better, my head aches are gone, and I am more calm trhough the day, plus, I got more energy. I just don't eat too much. Some activities help me staying thin.

I think that what keeps you thinner is not starving yourself to death, is the discipline in your nutrition and lifestyle.

If you are one of the many people who don't eat three meals a day, or if you know people with the same problem, i'd think i'd be a good idea to encourage them to start doing so.

You may be thinking of a meal in the wrong light. You don't have to stuff yourself until its uncomfortable. As Americans we tend to eat meals that are "Super Sized'. Eating smaller meals throughout the day (maybe even 5!) keeps your metabolism going at a much faster rate than if you were to eat only once or twice a day. When your body doesn't have a constant source of food it goes into starvation mode. In other words, your metabolism slows down and you store everything you put into your mouth as fat. So my advice, be a grazer and remember portion sizes. For example, a serving of meat is only about the size of a deck of cards. Good luck!

I only ever eat when I'm hungry and that is normally in the evening, so I only eat one meal a day.

The only time I've ever eaten three meals a day was at boarding school - and I was the size of a house.

My first inclination is to say no, it's not necessary - but there's probably blood sugar issues.

I have breakfast and dinner (maybe fruit at lunchtime if I'm hungry) and I'm OK.
