Merrick somehow cooks chicken bones so that they are soft and edible by dogs. I would really like to know what the process is for this

Use an old fashioned pressure cooker-It takes about a few hours. I do it for my neo mastiffs once in a while. The bones will become soft, chewable and easy to digest. I sometimes do a whome chicken, and save the broth too, they love it. I got mine from my grand-ma.

The bones may very well be soft enough to simply chew up. I, personally, would never feed cooked bones, at least not small bones. If the vet de-boned the chicken, set the bones aside raw with some meaty padding still attached, and then added them to the finished product once it was cooled then that might be different. Raw chicken bones are perfectly fine provided the smaller bones have some tissue still attached to encourage the dog to chew and to provide some padding on the way down.

welllll.....my son did a science fair project last year where he stuck a chicken bone is a glass of vinegar. Leave it there for a while...it'll get soft. Probably will taste crappy, but it will be soft!! LOL!!!

I've been told no chicken bones for dogs too. They can splinter and cause problems. I don't give mine chicken or turkey bones when raw OR cooked. Just my two cents worth...

Don't feed your dog chicken bones!! I've never heard of them being cooked soft enough to prevent splintering. Just stick to old fashioned food!

You can feed raw chicken with bones in it to dogs but once you cook it the bones are no longer edible by dogs. They will splinter and can pierce the gut of a dog.
However I know many people who feed raw chicken necks and back and things to dog and they are fine. BARF diet.
