You should have lighter and darker shades of the same tone. Ash, champagne, golden, whatever. It looks more natural. You might want to get it done at a salon. What you buy in the store has one or two colors. The salon can do a wide array of shades, from light to dark in your hair to give you a natural look.

What is your style type? If you like the natural look you should dye it a level darker than you have.
If you are looking for something funky make the blonde blonder and go really dark or bright underneath.
I did one where it was platinum on top and black underneath. REally funky. I did another where it was a very pretty strawberry blonde underneath and we put a few low-lights of that in the top.
What matters in your choice is what is your personal style...you don't want to be dressed all preppy and get this crazy punk style..or vice versa.

A bright stawberry blonde. It will contrast with the top layer and make the blonde on top look like hilights.
