If you're doing research on what dogs to find out what you might be interested in, check out the following links. They are broken down by larger dogs and smaller dogs.
Here you can view a picture of each breed, and review the details i.e. size and weight or temperment, of each to find what might be right for you.
When you find a breed you're truly interested in, research it further at a place like wikipedia.com. When you're ready to pick up your new companion, you'll understandably be excited but be wary of some breeders as they might not be breeding for the right reasons. Some may have made a mistake and you could end up paying for it later through medical bills and the like. The best place to start would be through a Rescue. They will usually have a ton of information about the dog you'll be getting and will have placed the same scrutiny on his condition as you likely will.
Best of all good luck!

Well, first off do you know what kind of dog you want, or one that is going to fit your everyday life, and living space? If so, do you plan to go pick up your knew dog from whatever state he may be in, or would you have him first class on a plane? I had my purebred pitbull flown from ohio, to Fl and i wish that i had just drove and picked her up, because i feel that it made scared of things (ex loud noises, i would need to know some of these awncers in order to help you out further

My favorite is www.petfinder.com. You can search in your city and nearby areas, you can search for dogs by breed, or by age, or by size...
I really like it. Good luck!

Oh, you can go to petsmart because it's a common pet store. You can also look in your phonebook for your local animal shelter.
