ONLY IF YOU CANT STOP

It sounds to me like a person drinking this much is showing the early signs of an acohol problem.
One of the most important signs of developing acoholism is that you start needing a drink to go to sleep. You start looking forward to meals because thats when you'll drink (not cause of the meal). In the early stages of alcoholism you can actually skip 2 or 3 days a week and not think anything of it so the fact that the person is only drinking for 4 days out of the week doesn't mean anything.

The person drinking this much should take atleast 1 month without ANY drinks at all and see how they feel after 2 weeks at least. If they are craving the alcohol then he/she is an alcoholic.

If the person insists on not being an acoholic then they should stop drinking this much anyway because you are increasing your chances of falling into alcoholism anyway... At least reduce it to 1 or 2 glasses PER WEEK. Why would you need 3 glasses/day? This amount of alcohol is not healthy for the liver anyway!

Lets remember that drinking with your buddies or with your family does NOT stop you from being an alcoholic if you are. You could be using that situation to your favor to mask the fact that you have an alcohol problem. Also ALOT of people drink a glass to unwine after work but NOT EVERY DAY. If you are NEEDING a glass to "unwine" everyday with alcohol, then you should really be checking yourself out.

I have MANY family members that are alcoholics and I actually almost became one too. I would only drink with my friends and family but I started to look forward to the drink and not being able to sleep without the drink. I mean, literally I would stay awake the WHOLE night if I didn't have a drink. So it is not about how often you drink or with whom is about "DO YOU NEED THE DRINK? ARE YOU DEPENDING ON THAT DRINK TO HAVE A GOOD OR NORMAL DAY OR NIGHT?" I stopped drinking before the situation got out of hand. See the thing is that I knew that I had an addictive personality so I am always cautious of what I am taking (medicine), eating, smoking, or drinking.

I don't think so. I'd say I'm an alcoholic long before I would point my finger at you! I drink a liter of 151 proof rum every week!

I just read RKO's post, I have never had money, job, or family problems as a result. In fact, I own 10 acres of land, a sailboat in the Caribbean, and I'm a recreational pilot. Married 37 yrs - to the same woman - helped raise 3 kids. Have a BA in aeronautics.

It depends on how DEPENDENT you are on those three glasses of wine. An alcoholic, I believe, can only have one drink a year - but if (s)he needs that drink more than taking care of family matters, reporting to work on time, or using the money for other more necessary things, (s)he might be an alcoholic. I'd look into the Alcoholic Anonymous website. It's full of good information and true testimonials of people who have conquered their alcoholism after years of living with the disease. -RKO-

As long as you are not drinking a glass of wine upon first waking I think you are okay. Or as long as you skip a day here and there and aren't skipping days just because you are too hung over to drink you're alright. I know guys who drink a whole six pack of beer everyday after work, but i wouldn't consider them alcoholics. When you are hiding your drinking or it is effecting your everyday life, like missing work or not going anywhere then you should worry.

I enjoy a couple glasses of wine in the evenings to unwind and relax but I don't "need" them. I think that is where the line is drawn - if you "need" the alcohol. Kind of like a smoker craves his cigarettes and gets in a panic if he's out

You could be.

Anybody who cant stop for more that 4 to 5 days has an alcohol addiction.

Not necessarily.

The key to alcoholism is that you are addicted. Could you stop if you chose to? Does it interfere with your life and yet you cannot break away, or is it more like a relaxation method? Becoming inibriated is an ancient recreation. It is just a matter of whether the recreation rules you or if you rule it.

It depends on the wine:

If it's Franzia in a box, then yes, I'd say so.

If it's a fine Bordeaux or some other good wine, then I'd say your going a little over the line.

You know what they say, you can't have too much of a good thing!

It depends on your reasons. If you are drinking socially with friends then you're fine. If you drink alone to dull pain or forget then if you aren't an alcoholic now, you're well on your way.

No if you take it with food and reduce to one or two glasses at each time.
