Men like dogs because you can play rough and tumble games with them, run with them, and they're obedient and remain loyal and your best friend no matter what. Also, men like to be the alpha male, so having a dog shows their dominant side.
For women, they like diamonds, because women focus more on appearances and beauty and making a good impression. But for who? generally men. Men want to see their women look good, and nothing is more precious or reflects femininity than a diamond. Also the saying "diamonds are forever" is true. Women like diamonds because they last forever, which is what many women find lacking in their lives is stability and faithfulness. Women are more emotional minded, and they attach emotional and symbolic meanings to diamonds.

It takes the dog to find a diamond. So man befriends the dog to get him to the diamond and once he has the diamond, he uses it as a bartaring tool with the woman.
She says to him "Bring me more, more, more..."
And the man replies,
"As you wish my dear, Fido, come, I need more bright shiny thing, for mean old woman to love me..."
But notice that I say nothing about the woman loving the man, only that the man thinks it. So as the man runs off with his bestfriend, the woman laughs and says

Women are materialistic, and men need acceptance. A diamond is the most precious (monetarily speaking) thing on earth, and it sparkles! A dog will never think "You lazy bastard, why the hell didn't you feed me THREE times today???". Dogs are always happy to see the alpha male.
