I'm making a pie that calls for fresh blueberries. Can I subsitute frozen berries, or should I thaw them first?

Unless a recipe specifically calls for fresh berries, frozen berries may be substituted in nearly all cases. Frozen berries contain more moisture so the thickening agent must be increased 1 ½ to 2 times and the berries must be dusted with flour.

thaw them first or you'll get the dough really wet, and putting it outside the dough it might burn and berries have a lot of water content. Baking berries inside the dough will be a lot better, and since its you'll be making a pie it will be okay, just thaw the frozen berries and make sure there are no freezer burns on. Fresh are way better than frozen since thawing frozen, you are like thawing the great flavor and taste too. : )

Yes you can use frozen blueberries, but don't thaw first then you'll have a big blue mess. While the berries are still frozen toss with a little flour to absorb some of the extra liquid they'll let out.
And make sure there is no sugar added so it doesn't throw off your recipe.

frozen berries, whether they are thawed or not exude way too much water for pies, tarts, cakes, etc...if the recipe calls for fresh please use fresh because the pie tastes so much better. even if the recipe calls for frozen u should still use fresh. frozen berries tend to be packed with more water than fresh (because the water helps them preserve freshness while they are refrigerated / froze) when frozen berries are put in the oven even if u dried them off before u put them in ur pie, they give off all that excess water that was there in the original packaging process

trust me

go fresh

let me know how ur pie comes out

Yes, if they are not frozen in syrup. I would thaw first & proceed.
