In the actual Witness Protection program, you will have to move away from where you have lived, you can never contact your mother or father any brothers or sisters or any grown children.

You will be given a new name and ID, and work history and normally given your first job and told not to do things you used to do.

I don't normally see this being used in merley a rape trial ( sorry it is serious enough but this is normally used in thehigher level criminal trial.

Witness protection is designed to do just what the title says: protect the witness.

If you're being asked to move, and other steps are being taken to ensure your safety when coming and going from the trial itself, then I can only assume that your safety is in extreme jeopardy and you'd be foolish not to take the authorities up on their offer.

You will normally have a new name, complete with background and history, and will be expected to cut all ties to your "former" life - meaning that you will not be phoning up old friends to chat or to hang out.

Good luck with your new life!

Are you sure you're talking about the REAL Witness Protection Program? I can see the local Police escorting you to and from Court - but relocation? That's handled by the U.S. Marshalls.
This has to be a REAL BAD GUY. Are you prepared to never speak to your mother again - or go to your father's funeral?
I think you'd better get this straight with the Officer you're working with.

They supply you with a whole new identlty. Your names, personal history, everything has to change. You will not even be able to see relatives again. This involve stealing away in the dead of night to a totally new location where no-one knows you. Very hard on the family.

Maybe youre talking about the "Snitches Protection Program?"They will escort you to court..then when they get you to do your thing...and have no more use for you..you are on your own..So, yeah...you might need to relocate. Good luck.
