If you are very out of shape or considered obese (over 35 % body fat) then it is a great way to jump start. If you only need to drop a small amount of weight, or to firm up, Curves will be too easy for you! Go with something more rigorous.

It all depends on the location you go to--they're individually owned. The first one I joined, the people who worked there didn't give a crap about anything, even if you were doing the exercises wrong! So you should definitely visit different locations near you and talk to the people there before you sign up. Don't sign up at the first one you go to. If they give you attitude about shopping around, then you know that's not the one you want to join.
The one I go to now is great. The people who work there are friendly, they give you advice if they see you doing an exercise wrong, they encourage you to get weighed and measured regularly, but they don't pressure you or make you feel guilty if you miss a few workouts. They do offer a weight management class for an extra fee, but I haven't tried it yet. If anyone has any questions about their supplements and shakes, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They even have occasional raffles for fitness or sports prizes and you earn raffle tickets at your weigh-ins or by participating in things like "Wacky Wednesday", where they tell you to wear pink next Wednesday, or wear a sports team t-shirt, etc.
The part I love the most is that it's all women, so I feel more comfortable than I did going to a regular gym. And the women are literally ALL ages, shapes, sizes, fitness levels. It's extra motivating to me, because someday, I want to be one of those 70-year-old, hot grandmas in great shape!

I went to curves last year, but I didn't care for it much. I found that once they got you signed up they didn't care about you after that. I thought that they would help me with portioning meals and things like that because they sell replacement drinks, etc, but nobody wanted to help much. The only thing I liked about curves was the other ladies that attended. Everyone was so nice!

i did curves about 5 years ago. It was fun! There was a little bit of pressure to sign up, but once I did, they just leave you alone to do your workout. The workout itself is fun, and it doesn't take too long!

The one I tried wouldn't even talk to me. I need to lose like 10 lbs and really like the benefits of their workout, but they told me I wasn't obese so I didn't need their help! Screw them-I went to Slenderlady!
