The Lord gave the doctors the knowledge and ability to become physical healers. I suffered from not one, but three very painful nerve disorders in my head, neck, and face. The members of my church prayed for me and although I had a brief healing, I still prayed to the Lord for complete healing. I was led to a surgeon, who with God's help, has relieved me of my pain. Praise the Lord!

Back then, Doctors did not have a lot of knowledge, used leeches and incense. Maybe you would go, but, I would worry about it. Might prefer a prayer or two.
Today, doctors are very competent. Most people I know go to them.
Personally, I prefer natural remedies that deal with root cause and not symptoms. Thus, in some cases, I avoid doctors, but for good reason.
Real easy to find historical mistakes. Is your question valid today?

You are confusing Christians with the Amish.
While we all could learn a ton about life and peace from the Amish, Christians are not as disciplined in many ways.
Christians DO go to the doctor. It is the Amish who call the elders when one is ill.
No hard feelings.

HEALING ain't that Easy.
Lot's of Pro.'s and Con.'s
Gotta get a lot of Duck's in a Row too.
Unless GOD just Give's you the FAITH (Substance) and HEAL's you PERSONALLY, getting your Own Healing Yourself (through GOD), can be Difficult or Deadly.
Alway's go to the Doc and take your FAITH with you.
GOD gave us Doctor's. And, very pretty Nurse's too.
THE PERSON WHO HAS WALKED WITH GOD for a While and has LEARNED some Major Stuff (Spiritual Principle's)can Probably Recieve HIS Healing on his own (laying on of Hand's, Elder's and Oil etc.) using what GOD gave us in the BIBLE.
Healing is very Tricky.
Don't take Chance's.
Hope this helps.
Ditto.........

Of course I go to the doctor. I think people that read the bible read it too literally. Why would God give people the ability to obtain knowledge to heal the sick and then tell us not to go to them and just pray?!!! If you are sick and ask God to cure you, it may take on your part to see a doctor, whom God has blessed with the ability to help you.

I am an Atheist, but I respect their praying custom, if anything helps sick person, no matter if its God for adult, or a Mickey mouse for a child.
The main point is that the sick person should feel better, psychologically.

I agree with Wewhalt...there is nothing in that quote that says "do not call a doctor"...calling an elder for annointment does not preclude the individual from seeking other treatments.

I go to the doctor annually and any other time I need to. I also go to the dentist every six months. God wants us to take care of ourselves. We are the temples of God. If we need to see a doctor to help heal us when we are sick, I don't think God is opposed to that. There are some Christian doctors you know ;)

There is no harm in seeing a professional...doctor. The laying on of hands and prayer also work to aid the wellness of body, mind, spirit of anyone.
