Jesus' real full name would have been Yehoshua bar Yoseph or Yehoshua ben Yoseph, which in English means "Jesus son of Joseph".

So Jesus (Greek / Latin) = Yehoshua or Yossi (Hebrew / Aramaic) = Joshua (English). Can't make it any clearer than that.

As Jesus was Jewish and not in fact a Christian, and Christianity was not a recognizable religion during the life time of Jesus, "Jesus" was not his real name.

Yeshua or Yehoshua is Jesus' real name which in Hebrew is spelt יהושוע. Jesus may also have been known as Yossi a common Jewish name today.

Jesus is really just a variation on Joshua. As the translation of Yeshua, Yehoshua or Yossi from Hebrew into English is rendered as Joshua and not Jesus.

Jesus is the Greco-Roman name derived from Jesus' Hebrew Jewish name, given to him in the Greek texts of the New Testament.

Jesus' name would be the same as Hebrew in the Aramaic versions of the New Testament.

Aramaic was the Semitic lingua franca during the Greco-Roman period, but was much closer to Hebrew than any other Semitic language today such as Arabic.

Please see Wikipedia article for more information.

PS Cliffpotts2005, please note Jesus IS NOT Aramaic, and is in fact the Greek and Latin name. Names in Hebrew and Aramaic are the same or similar. Please correct this. I hate disinformation!

Yehoshua bar Yoseph
Joshua son of Joseph
Joshua in Hebrew = Jesus in Aramaic
however it was spelled "Iesus" since the "J" was not invented to differentiate the sounds until the 1500s the "J" and "I" were pronounced the same. This did not really become an issue until people became educated and reading became possible.

Jesus is the Greek name, His real name is Yahshua , which is Hebrew. In Hebrew there is no letter "J" . The name Yahshua was translated to Jesus (in the Greek) , The New Testament was written In Greek. If you saw the movie " The Passion of Christ" the name used was Hebrew "Yahshua". Christ is the title of who He is.
Yahshua means "God Saves" or "God's Salvation".
God has a name that starts with the letter 'Y' , how many readers know that name?

Yeshua would have been the pronounciation then.

BTW the seer Edgar Cayce (1920s) predicted that WW3 would start in the place called Gilead. As it turns out the place was not Gilead but the young soldier who's kidnap sparked the outbreak of violence this year was called.... Gilead.

Hank Federman.
He was an author of minor note who turned his attention to the creation of a religion after snorting large quantities of qat. Sadly, his religon did not become a financila succes until lonog after his death. Hank died broke, while hanging out with some people he thought were his friends.

Some 2,000 years later, another author of minor note came up with a similar idea. After checking the records, he came up with the term Scientology. Unlike Hank (Jesus) Federman's creation, this oneis going down.

He would have been referred to as "Yeshua ben Yowceph," "Yeshua bar Yowceph." In English this means "Jesus Son of Joseph."

I think it was Jesus of Nazareth. One Gospel has Him being born in Bethlehem, and another has Him being born in Nazareth, but as far as I know, He was called Jesus of Nazareth during His lifetime.
