I got over my fear by continuously throwing myself into situations where I needed to public speak. It gives you enough expirience in the situation that in the end it becomes less nerve racking then it used to be.

Just keep in mind that theres nothing scary about it, everyone wants you to do well so there is no reason why you should be scared.

I have the same problem but I think to myself, "Just do it and get over it quickly." Go first if you can.

The best way is to be prepared with what you have to say. I make sure that whatever I have to say is carefully written and/or memorized and then I either stare at the back of the room when speaking or look at their faces quickly.. without really looking [Yeah, I know kinda weird].

Breathe slowly. Take your time.
You can also try something different, acting or something that requires you to perform in front of an audience to try to get over that fear or take a speech class. One of my requirements was a speech class and I was the shyest person in the class, but I was still able to get through it by being prepared.

I'm still scared of it. But, a combo of these things help.

I used to feel the same way and in some ways I still do, up to the point of actually speaking and then I learned to enjoy it. But sometimes my throat becomes dry and I just need to relax and take deeper breaths and talk slower. What helps me is preparation, and if there is interaction be prepared to answer any relevant question that comes up. But I always practice ahead of time, so practice and actually giving regular speeches will help. Plus like the earlier answerer wrote, nothing bad will happen that has any long lasting consequences. But you may never completely get over it, but you will learn to cope better.

Some people are not as comfortable speaking infront of groups as others. When you have a project, practice reading it to yourself and if possible to a groups of friends or family. Also it may help to take a public speaking class if that is an elective at your school.

Sounds like you have lack of confidence in yourself. Be fully prepared with your presentation. Just remember that when you are up there, you are the most important person in the room. Try to look everyone in the eye. Take three deep breaths, and go for it. You'll do just fine.

I think you will find it is just nervousness on steroids. If you can control the nerves, then you are going 2 b ok. Try this: Always be 150% prepared with what you want to say, then Always stay relaxed. Don't rush, until you get your breathing normal. Always think of your audience as if they were only wearing underwear.

I used to have the same feelings.........but I started holding an elastic as i spoke and it seemed to work.........when you speak before a group look out just over the top of their heads, each one will feel that you are speaking to just them. It's also important to really know what you are speaking about :) As a former sales trainer, I'd spend hours in front of a mirror, practicing my lines.
remember.....professionals practice daily. Practicing Dr's Practicing Attorneys, Professional athletes Practice.
So, Practice your technique and Perfect your Performance

well i'm really sorry lots of people feel that way the only way is by facing the audience hope for the best and just well think about getting good grade and pretend your #1 family member or friend is there waiting to be proud of you. oh and pretend your classmates are not there

this happens to me i have a report in my hand and when i'm going to exhale i repeat the same word 10 times.

Try mock audience, use small kids as audience by inducing a reward (may be a cookie or a chocolate) so that they sit and comprise an audience. Practice in front of them. Ask their opinion. They will be frank. Then practice in front of your friends and siblings, may be before taking in the plunge in front of the real audience. This will prepare you as you would already have overcome your initials fears of facing a new audience. good luck!

Deep breaths and realizing that nothing bad could possibly happen when you speak. Nobody out there in your audience is any better than you, are they? You could look into a Toastmasters group in your area... they are very effective in helping your public speaking skills.
