1. The TV s in a small room.
2. I don't want to have speaker wire running all over my walls.
3. I just want a little bit of augmentation to the sound of the TV.
4. I like the DVD player I have. I would like a small amp and 2.1 speaker system for my TV but I can't find one.

It would work fine. Something like the Klipsch 2.1 or the top 'o the line Logitech 2.1 systems would sound excellent.

Would need a stereo 1/8" plug to 2 RCA plug adapter as mentioned by the other guys. For more length you could use a 1/8" plug to 2 RCA JACK cable and a standard stereo patchcord (all RCA plugs) of the necessary length between your TV / DVD player and the adapter cable from your computer speakers.

I'd reconsider a small 5.1 system. The results can really make action movies MUCH more fun (in some of today's effect-heavy movies, you miss most of the entertainment value without surround... LOL) . Sounds like you purchased a nice enough TV and realism is important enough to you that it would be a shame to limit the whole viewing experience with 2.1 sound. Your current DVD player should work fine with a system that comes with an inexpensive 5.1 receiver and speakers, as long as it has an optical or coaxial digital audio output (most DVD players do), and the system you buy has the matching input. There are many small, inexpensive speaker stands sold for surround speakers to keep your speakers off the walls that are pole-like and many allow the speaker wires to be run through the stand for neatness. Wires can be run around the edge of the room, behind furniture, etc... Here's an example of some inexpensive stands. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5019646 I've seen nicer looking ones at a similar price. You get the idea though... Handi-Tack... That non-drying poster hanger putty can be useful for securely attaching speakers to the stands with no screws.

Something like this sold at Wal-Mart would work for you... http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4810709 They have similar systems for more or less $. This system will accept a coaxial OR optical digital audio output from your DVD player for decoding Dolby Digital. Will decode Dolby Pro Logic surround from the stereo outputs on your TV for surround TV movies, ballgames, etc... Has an AM-FM tuner... and remember you can use your DVD player to play audio CDs through the system as well.

DON'T FEAR THE SURROUND-SOUND!!!... LOL

You can by getting a an "Y-Adapter, Phono Jacks to Stereo 1/8" Plug" from Radio Shack. Connect the audio out from your TV to the adapter and plug the adapter into the input of the computer speakers.

Or, get a "Mini-to-RCA" and just connect the tv audio out to the computer speaker's audio in.

Why wouldn't you just buy a pair of home theater speakers or a system?
