I went to the salon yesterday to go blonde for the first time. I'm naturally a very dark brunette... and after 2 1/2 hours, the color came out all wrong. It's very brassy and orangy and i'm not happy at all with the outcome. Though it is a 'blonde' color, I wanted to have a natural golden blonde color. My question is... what do I do now?
Can I buy haircolor from a store that is a bit lighter in hopes that this will take some of the brassiness out? It honestly looks like somone ::chuckles:: peed on my head (ew! :x )
Will the haircolor I bought at the store work on pre-dyed hair? Also, how long should I wait? My hair is pretty strong and hasn't shown much sign of damage so far.
Any and all advice you could give would be very much appreciated! :) It's my first time going this light, and i'm somewhat baffled. I just want to get my hair to a nice an natural looking blonde.

hmmmm, perhaps quit dying your hair and just be the natural you as you were born?

I'm a stylist here is the best advice I can give you.. If you trust the salon you went to, to start to go blond then go back there and have them work with you to achieve the color level you desire. If you do not trust them or the person that did your them find another salon ,make a lot of calls and find a salon that specializes in color. And in defense of the salon and stylist it is a comb and color not a magic wand. I get clients in all the time that think just because their favorite starlet goes from dark brown to platinum blond they think that it is easy. What no one seems to think about and I tell my color clients when they pick a major color change is ...... This is not rocket science if i had one formula that would work on everyone then anyone could do what I do. But that is not how it is. A good stylist should let you know that sometimes it may take more than one visit to get the desired color that you are looking for. From what you said it sounds as if you need a bit more lightning and then some toning. DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF!!!! It makes it very difficult for us to fix when you apply a box color. Next time you might want to go with highlights done with a lot of little sections weaved out. I hope you find something in what I have passed on. Good luck also if you don't let the stylist know that you are unhappy she never knows there was a problem.

There are some beauty supply stores that sell "toners" that are used esp. for prebleached hair. These will usually take most yellow and orange tints out of hair. You will need to buy the toner and the activator creme and mix them together. Make sure to ask how much of each to mix together because sometimes they do not come with directions. I believe it's 2 oz of toner and 4 oz activator...but I'm not sure. You apply this just like you would regular hair dye and let it sit for about 10 minutes or up to 20 I think. You can also try a shampoo called Ghirmack Silver Brightening shampoo that has a purple tint and is supposed to control brassiness in silver gray or blonde hair. Good luck. I also have dark brown hair and it is hard to get a pretty blond in it.

You can try going back to the salon and see if they will fix it. You can try using a toner to get rid of some of the brassyness, look in a beauty supply store. Last, yes, you can buy some haircolor to try and fix it, it should help some. The brassyness is common when a brunette first goes blonde. Also, no matter what--give your hair a week or so to "adjust". When I dye my roots myself it always seems a bit too bright at first, but a week later after washing it all week it tones down some, and blends better with the rest of my hair.

I would go to a public beauty supply like a Sally's or something and get your color there make sure the bottle lifts ten shades. make sure that you don't use any green or ash base get a Blondie bottle that states a golden base it will say that right on the bottle .Get yourself 40 volume peroxide .It sounds to me that you need to go two shade lighter to knock out the orange. When your at the supply store buy a reconstructive packet there about$2. a pack, and after you shampoo your hair put it in your hair while its moist .Put a plastic cap on over it or saran wrap .Leave it on for about an hour and rinse. The next time you buy shampoo get a moisturizing one for damaged hair and get a good conditioner. You can also use 20 volume perioxide but the 40 will knock it out faster if your hair is stubborn.Good luck

Go back to the salon and tell them to fix it! You paid for it, you should get what you want. And don't try it at home if it's already messed up because it's likely it might just get worse. Maybe ask them to add some blonde highlights or something.
