- specifically "Kisses" can't place it, but there is this (what I consider to be most unpleasant) aftertaste - sorta waxy..

Anyone else notice that?

well, maybe its because I'm in Canada and they send us a different grade of Hershey's.. I recall the brown wrapper bar being good (althugh its been a while) - but the Kisses, I dunno - got that aftertaste, not just me others in my household have noticed it too - and this is not an isolated experience but many Xmas stocking worth of Kisses over many years.

a lot of things affect the flavor of chocolate. some of them occur when the cocoa pods are growing. what ever the cocoa tree is next to it will pick up hints of the flavor. if it is growing next to a banana tree the cocoa will have a banana flavor. just a hint. most likely the things you are tasting are either mold on the beans while they were fermenting, it gives the beans a kind of sour musky after taste. or they were over roasted which causes astringency, a drying effect on the pallet like a red wine.

My husband and I once taste-tested Hershey's dark kisses vs. Dove and found the Hershey's richer and less waxy. Lately though there's an aftertaste like artificial sweetener. No mention of 'diet' on the bag, though it's an extra-large bag that was on special at a big-box retailer. That's a lot of aftertaste.

Yes it does. Most Europeans think Hershey's is crap chocolate. (No offence - there's loads of American sweets I like - Reece's pieces ymmm)
Hershey's just tastes fake.
Go to the UK and buy some Dairy Milk, it's better.
Or even better, go to Belgium or France the chocolate there's amazing.
In Paris, there's all these boutiques selling expensive clothes and jewellery, and alongside them is designer chocolate. You can get these elaborate displays of chocolate that cost about £100 and they look so beautiful you wouldn't want to eat them.
Myself, I prefer a 40 pence chocolate bar.
:)

I agree, it's kind of waxy, but I'm used to it.

The absolute BEST chocolate I've ever had was Cadbury from England. It definitely different from the Cadbury we get in the U.S.

Maybe it's the same for your Hersey kisses.

No. It doesn't have any nasty after taste. Maybe it was something you ate before the hershey that gave it an after taste. Like minty candy or something.

i love chocolate, but hershey's is not my favorite. i find that hershey's chocolate isn't very creamy and does leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

i really like dove chocolate. for more expensive chocolate - godiva!!!
