You can still have a quarter pounder with cheese and be healthy. You have to follow the 80/20 rule. If you follow your diet 80% of the time the other 20% is ok.
A fat society is a sign of a abundant society. Example, look at those commerical of the starving african kids. They show villages full of emiciated people. There countries do not have abundances. America has it ingrain to have an abundance. Therefore, we feel it is ok to eat and not conserve. Thus there is a weight issue.
Another problem is there are too many fad diets that only work on a temporary basis. People use the free market system in America to make money from these diet plans only to have people fail.
Finally, not everyone is fat. Yes, by the statisticaly nature there is a high percnetage people that are clinically obese. However, the definitions of obeisity was recently change to a stricter standard. I am 6'2" and weigh 205, by the new standards I am obese. If you look at me you will see that is not true. I just have a little extra body fat on me. So do not base a stereoptype on this statistical data.
I hope I covered it.

OK, so the people in Hollywood aren't fat, but are they living a healthy lifestyle with all those fad diets and their respective weights going up and down more than someone who's bipolar? I think there's a few big reasons driving this problem: (1) The generation that went through the depression taught us to clean our plates, even if we were full. As a result, most Americans have bad eating habits like eating when we're not hungry, stuffing ourselves, etc. (2) Eating a more healthy diet requires more money and more time than simply doing fast food every day of the week. Since we're all about convenience in our fast-paced society, most people would rather get that quarter pounder at Mickey D's as opposed to taking the time to buy boneless skinless chicken breasts, grill them, and add a salad or veggies or something like that. (3) A recent study shows that the average American can gain 15 pounds in a year just by drinking one can of Coke per day, and last I checked the average American drinks between 2 and 3 cans of Coke or their favorite soft drink per day, so do the math. (4) We're lazy. How many Americans exercise on a regular basis? Less than 20% according to recent studies by the Department of Health and Human Services. BOTTOM LINE: We know what we need to do, but since it's not convenient we don't do it, and we pay for it with larger waist lines and more maladies as we get older, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type II diabetes, etc. At least some of the schools are getting junk food and soft drinks out of their cafeterias. Hey, at this point any little bit helps...

American are becoming fat because thing aren't like they use to be in the old days when the father worked and the mother stay at home and cook . We live in an era where both parents work so there is really no time to cook a decent meal anymore so we eat foods that are compatible to our schedules.(fast food, junk food, and other foods along that nature)It kind of hard to eat healthy in a rush and most of the time health food sucks anyway.

Many Americans eat healthy, low-fat food, and exercise regularly. They are concerned about their health and well-being, and stay fit.
Many Americans eat pizza, McDonalds, Burger King, etc. on a regular basis. They eat candy, ice cream, and drink tremendous amounts of soda. This got to be a habit when both parents in a family (in those lucky enough to have two parents in the household), had to be gone all day at work. These parents are tired, so bring in the Colonel Sanders, etc. instead of cooking healthy meals.

Because they're too lazy to cook a decent meal so they go and hit a fast food joint. I think the quarter pounder is more of a danger. It's killing people every day. Terrorists kill people every once in a while (or try to).

That's an easy one to answer. They're fat because they're often prosperous, eat too much of the wrong kinds of food, and hate to exercise ( or "can't find the time" - the time can never be found; you have to make it.)
The quarter pounder will kill more of us in the long run (and partially because we don't take long runs) than the terrorists.

Sounds like a science or a General Health category question. Why did you select Religion to ask about a quarter pounder?

Why are you asking this in the religion and spirituality section? Try the health section next time.
I don't know where you from, but when I was in Europe people said the same thing, and it was weird because people in the country I was in were short, and petite, and still fat (of course they were all fat in their torso, and more americans are fat in their hips), but they still called americans fat. Yeah, there are a lot of obese people here, but I can't help but wonder how much of that concept of "americans are fat" is actually just a reflection of people who are taller, larger framed, or just carry their fat in a different part of their body. Strange huh?
Oh, BTW - both are dangerous.

I am from other country but I go to Texas very often. I have watched Texas people and found their mistakes:
1.-They have no side walks so they use the car for everything. They do not walk at all because car can transport them.
2.-For being healthy is neccesary drinking at least 8 glasses of water and when I tried to found a bottle of water, I only found one which contained the equivalent 2 glasses of water.
3.-TV advertising. TV is full of advertise of trash food and food. And curiously was full of advertise of YOU CAN DROP WEIGHT EASILY.
4.-I did not notice healthy snacks, all was bread, candies and cokes.
5.-In restaurants there are a lot of fried food and the healthy food was very unatractive. I think restaurants do their best to cook trash food but the healthy they completely forget about it.
6.-I noticed that parents did not teach to their kids to eat correctly. I saw lot of kids with cokes, candies, trash food, cookies. Parents could teach them better
7.-They are always rushed, they have no time for home food so their only choice are restaurants, fast food and I already told about them in numer 5.
