This is another question that crops up every so often.
A swans wing generates enough force to be able to break a human arm; that is not the same thing as saying they have broken someones arm, or will do.

Swans can be aggressive like Geese and Turkeys, which can and will chase people if they are sitting on eggs, protecting their young or their territory.

The wing span on these birds is sometimes up to 8 feet. It would not be unheard of for one to cause a broken arm or similiar.

Yes! my friend got attacked by one! she got very close and started poking it with a stick. she was sitting on the high wall, and when the swan got annoyed and made a move towards her she screamed and fell of the wall onto her arm. it was quiet funny, but she did it to her self. i told her not to poke the bird! anyway she broke her left arm, and didn't like swans since.

No, but I'm sure those RSPB swan-tagging employees run a higher risk than everyone else!

I've heard of this. Swans are very strong and very aggressive. You should stay away from them. They are huge, and they use their knobby "elbows" (wing joints) to flog people repeatedly. They have killed small children.

I can very well imagining that happening. Their public image doesn't quite match their true selves. I have been chased various times by a pair of attack-geese (they lived nearby my house when I was a teen) and I'll tell you this, they ARE fierce and very intimidating.
