I work with young people and they are always french pleating each others hair, I'v asked them how to do it yet when I try it out on my 7 year old it just doesn't seem to be working. I have been looking through sites on the internet but cant seem to come up with any sites that tell me how to do french pleats.
Can anyone help? Jen :)

I like the instructions on the linked website. There are step-by-step pictures, even instructions on how to do a french braid on yourself.

Ok, I am from the states so we call it braiding...but anyway French plaits are easy.
Start at the hair line and pick up three pieces of hair just like you were about to make a small plait right there. Then braid that hair a couple of cross overs. You will have a mini plait.
Now you want to pick up another skinny piece next to the piece whose turn it is to go over and add it to that piece and put it over...Try to pull it tight because the braid will loosen as you go down and if it starts out loosen in the beginning it will be a big loose mess at the end. Repeat this for the other side. Think of it as you are just plaiting and adding a piece every time.
Do this all the way down the head (or to wherever you want to stop) Adding pieces to every piece that has it's turn to go over and giving it a good tug before continueing. Now rubber band it either for a pony on the end or continue plaiting to the end and rubber band it.
Layered hair is hard to plait as is very fine hair...which most seven year old girls have...so it may not be your fault that it is hard to plait. Some people can braid better when the hair is a bit damp because the hair doesn't slip out of the hands as easy.

Its quite hard to describe without showing you. Basically, you gather up the first lot of hair at the top, split it into 3 do the the normal right over left, left over right then as you go to do the right over left again gather up a little hair each time till you have worked your way down to the bottom. The secret is to keep it as tight as poss as you go. It can be quick tricky. Good luck and if all else fails go back to the good old ponytail!!

you just start a normal pleat at the top of her head and work your way down always adding more and more hair. just try it out a few times and eventually it will work out.

A better option is to go to your hairdresser and ask her to pleat your daughters hair whilst explaining and showing you what to do. Or a friend who knows how to do it. It's what i did. Hairdressers will be perfectly happy to teach you.

well, all you have to do is make a regular braid and keep adding small pieces of hair on both sides. that is how the braid stays close to the person's head and has that cool look on the sides.
good luck!!

i discussed her too! you particularly can not help yet see her because she's so energetic and continually on the flow in between factors. She appeared, a large number of the time, to be the purely female between a bunch of boys! satisfied that you printed your remark because I puzzled who she is to boot!
