It should somewhat match what the Mother of the Bride is wearing....like colors and style, but doesn't have to be the exact same thing you know....like pant suits, or long dresses.....but they should be similar in color!!!!

Tradition says that the mother of the groom should wear something tasteful that coordinates but not upstages or outshines either the bride OR her mother. I would find out what the wedding colors are and what the mother of the bride is wearing and try to go along with that.

But don't wear something hideous on you to 'blend in.' The bride and the groom will be looking at those pictures for the rest of their lives and so will you! Pick something flattering!

Tradition has it that the mother of the groom should not wear the same color as the mother of the bride as she has first choice. Find out what color her dress is and then pick your's after that. Depending on the wedding, if it's a big affair, long gowns are usual. Dress for the occassion.

Not really. My son is getting married next June. The bridesmaids are wearing pastels. So I am going to get a light colored dress. That way I won't stick out like a sore thumb in the pictures. I am however not wearing one of those awful two piece mother of the bride outfits. Good luck shopping.

The mother of the bride buys her dress first and then the mother of the groom can go out and shop. Make sure mother of groom doesn't match mother of bride.

You should talk to the bride and the mother of the bride to see what she is wearing.

Do not upstage the mother of the bride, be understated and elegant. Choose a color that you look good in however, and something similar to the color theme of the wedding.

Not the same colour as the bridesmaids. Style depends upon what type of wedding it is. For a formal-type wedding, she should wear a floor length dress or skirt - a touch of glam is really nice, too.

no white, no black

wear a similar color to the bridesmaids, but not the same, and not exactly the same as the mother of the bride.

i'm getting married in Oct. my bridesmaids are wearing chocolate brown, i think my mom is gonna wear a cream dress that has large abstract brown flowers on it with a brown shawl. i dont know what my fiance's mom is wearing yet.

You really should be asking the bride this. It is up to her what you wear so that you don't draw attention from the bridesmaids in the pictures. And you want to look good next to her mom so your outfits are going to cordinate. According to ettiquette that mother of the bride is the one who picks what she wants and you follow but just give her a casual call and ask her what she thinks. It was fun going with my mom and my hubbys mom shopping all three of us.

oh, one more thing, my bridesmaid dresses where black so I had both my mom and his mom wear black. The pics where amazing! the whole you can't wear black... is so out dated.

The main rule is to avoid wearing anything that is controversial or that steals attention from the bride. Sexy is OK as long as it's not so sexy that people are talking about it.
