Being a female in my late 30's I thought I'd search for love on the internet. I had hoped to go out on a few dates and hopefully meet someone to be friends with, hang out, get to know then if we were suited, give things a go.
So far I've only met people of extremes. They either want to get married in the very near future or have sex on your first night out.
Has dating changed so much? What are the typical expectations these days? Are there any gentlemen left out there?

I understand what your saying perfectly.....no-one bothers to really want to GET TO KNOW the other person....they just expect to have sex almost right away....don't get me wrong, I love sex but the older I get the more I value TRUE relationships where you can actually say that you are "friends" with the other person...this should come first, it just makes the most sense...because if you can be friends with someone, then that makes an intimate relationship all the more special. Then you have the OTHER extreme, like you said, they are ready to run down the aisle at top speed.....what's up with these people?? They are so hell bent on getting married that they don't care who or what they marry....just so they can say "Look, I'm married, I have the white picket fence, the wife/husband, the kids, the job, the material things, the money...etc...etc.... never mind that I may not genuinely "know" my spouse or have anything in common with them, it's just important that I can say that I was married......I've seen women AND men like this....it's so desperate and I honestly can't imagine the satisfaction of living your life with someone that your not totally close to in every way possible....I'm 36 and I've seen a lot, have gone through a lot, heard horror stories from mutual friends and I think dating has taken on a whole new twist....one that I'm not particularly fond of .....I've come to the conclusion that I may never meet that "special someone"....does this hurt? Yes, but at least I'm honest with myself and I don't tell myself lies to make me feel better.....I want someone who's loving, intelligent and can actually hold a interesting conversation, is able to show their sensitive side, isn't afraid to be honest and expect honesty in return.....I don't need Mr. Moneybags, I just want a MAN.....there's not too much to pick from out there....it's sad but true.....I'm getting older and I'm tired of playing games...too much wasted time and in my opinion the time that we have here is limited and short, so why make everything so hard and hard on ourselves??
You have asked a good question and I can only hope that maybe some people will "wake up" out there and take dating seriously for a change.

Its become complicated because the "friends with benefits" and "f**k buddies" have taken over the dating scene. Who wants to get involved with a woman if they don't know right off the get go if they are going to get laid? Not to mention everyone is in such a big damn hurry to get wherever they think they need to be they dont' take the time to get to know anyone anymore. Its sad--there are hardly any gentlemen left and the few there are out there are either Gay or married.....

Kat I can understand you dilema. First off most of the girls I hooked up with off the internet were sex freaks. Thats not bad thing, but it doesn't help if you want to build a relationship with somebody and all they want to do is get their freak on. As far as getting married right away, I went to college in Wyoming of all places and they slept with you on the first date and wanted to get hitched the next week.
SOLUTION: I ended up dating my best friend and we got married later. Get some male friends and see where your emotions go. Stay away from the internet it only leads to sickos and despair.

This is because you are looking for people on the internet. This exposes you to tons more people than you would have otherwise been exposed to. Including all the freaks. Try meeting people through friends or places you frequent.

Really??? I mean I am mid 30's and having a hard time finding a lady that isn't materialistic but does have a brain so she can think for herself. So I guess both sexes have their problems...

All the real men are taken. And the ones that are not taken have major issues, don't have a real job, or they have both and still live with their mothers............
