Religion is still around, and still defended, because its adherants are afraid of what may happen to them if they stop believing in all that stuff and have to admit that not everything has a nice, pat answer.
Knowing the "truth" about everyting makes them feel secure and superior. They think they know exactly what will happen in the future, and what will happen when they die. Religion is all about a way to curb humanity's natural fears.

Everyone believes in absolute truths. Either the world is round or it is not. One of those two is an absolute truth. Either you are in the United States of you are not. That is a truth.
Can religion prove that God exist? It has for countless billions of people over the history of the earth. So there must be some kind of evidence that is convicting these people. The real question is can it prove it TO YOU?
Well, there is still a Flat Earth Society today that claims the world is not round, and all the evidence for it is "doctored" or "altered" or "make up". And I doubt anyone will every be able to come up with undeniable proof that the world is round FOR THEM.
When it comes to the existence of God, there is sufficent proof for me. I see it all around and am clueless how others can not.
Why do I need to "prove" it? I don't if you are talking about winning an arguement or score points in a debate. I do if you mean that I see so many blessing that you could have in your life if you would just open your eyes, see him and accept them - and it frustrate me to see you missing so mny good things that you don't have to - so I feel complied to say "Please. Believe. So you can enjoy all the good things he has for you." Its that "love thy neighbor" thing were we are suppose to want the best for those around us.
Is there absolute truth about God? Of course. I mean, either he exist or he does not. One of those is absolute truth.
Every person since the beginning of time as desired to know the truth about God. And God desires them to know. That is why there are so many religion. People get a glance of God, and then build a religion around it. Some get more of it right then others. That is why there are so many things the same in all of them - like a "golden rule" or a law against murder. But no religion has ever gotten it all 100% correct.
That is why God had to come as a man and reveal it. His name was Jesus Christ. What he revealed is accurately recorded in the new testament. There is more than enough evidence to demonstrate that the new testament is an accurate historical and theological account of Jesus written by the people who actually knew him. We have manuscripts that date to with 15-20 years of when they were written. We have over 5,300 early copies of the new testament manuscripts from all around the known world that show it has been accurately transmitted to us today. If all the copies of the new testament where to disappear, we could recreate the whole them from letters, quotes, commentaries prayer books, inscriptions, etc. written by the early Christians.
You may debate whether what the new testament teachs is true or not, but there should be no debate about when it was written (by the people of the generation who actually lived it) and whether we have an accurate version of it. The evidence for both those is overwhelming.
Does religion have the power to answer everything? Of course not. It was never intended to answer everything. ("Who is going to win the World Series?") But if you take an honest look at the Christian faith, you will find answers to the questions of who is God, who are we, and how do we relate to him and each other.
You will be in my prayers today...

I am not at all sure what is meant by absolute truths. The Buddhist say that all things are transitory. I tend to believe that as an absolute truth. Life is indeed impermanent. However, to aver that there is life after death needs elaboration. Christian doctrine leaves a lot unexplained. The bible is filled full of facts and fiction. To be concerned about the authenticity of every story is to miss the point. These stories are intended to teach, not to be taken literally. Their veracity is of secondary importance.

I believe in relative truths (a-la Einstien's physics), and absolute truths. The question at hand here is that I think you're really asking: Is the scientific method our only source of obtaining truth?
I think the scientific method is a great way to learn truth, but I believe there are more ways than that. If you absolutely cannot accept that there are more ways to learn truth other than the scientific method, then of course you will be limmited to know only what you can learn by that.
best wishes.

Why are you and others choosing to feeling threatened by what you profess not to believe in? Where does all this anger truly come from?? Did you know that the only reason anyone can say they exist is through the faith/belief of those around them??? Humans fear being ignored because their sense of place in creation is given substance by others acknowledging their existence.Create a space of harmony and peace. Be the change.

All Religion's are False.
GOD ALMIGHTY is the TRUTH.
To get to Know HIM, you have to take the First Step Toward's HIM.
Through HIS SON JESUS.
WHO made The WAY to get to know TRUTH (GOD).
HE will call you, but YOU gotta take a Step towards HIM.
When HE call's, open the Door to your Heart by Asking JESUS to Come in and SAVE (Recreate you, a Spirit) you.
Then you can Learn TRUTH (GOD-Spiritual REALM), not Religion (feel-good stuff- Mental REALM).
Hope this helps.

I believe that religion holds no or little truth, and I don't think I believe in the concept of absolute truths. What we consider to be truth is a reflection of our perception of reality, and our perceptions can be flawed.

I believe there are definitional absolute truths, but that's where it ends. Religion can't provide any useful answers at all, and has no predictive power whatsoever.
