Side Effects of This Medicine
Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

When this medicine is used for short periods of time at low doses, side effects usually are rare. However, check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following occur:

Increase in runny or stuffy nose

Symptoms of too much medicine being absorbed into the body

Blurred vision; fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeat; headache, dizziness, drowsiness, or lightheadedness; high blood pressure; nervousness; trembling; trouble in sleeping; weakness.

The above side effects are more likely to occur in children because there is a greater chance in children that too much of this medicine may be absorbed into the body.

Other side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome:

Burning, dryness, or stinging inside of nose; increase in nasal discharge; sneezing

Other side effects not listed above may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your health care professional.

What you're having is commonly known as "rebound" from the product. It's having the opposite affect. Get yourself a humidifier (if you're using heat in your house, the air is dry), and some saline spray. Here is what you do: you only use the Afrin in one nasal passage and the saline in the other one. That way, you can breathe and clear up one area at the time without feeling like you're smothering. Once the passage has recovered (might take a couple of weeks), then you only use the saline in the nostril in which you were applying the Afrin. Those 12 hr. sprays are murder! I think this will help you. Also remember that if you sleep on your side, say the right, your right nostril will normally become congested. All you have to do is roll over to your left side and it will open up. I don't know why, ask God...it's the way we're made. Godloveya honey.

Any spray for nose, ears or mouth should be used with extra caution. If the dose exceeds the recommended limit or if the recommended dose itself is unsuitable to some, it can lead to such side effects as mentioned by you.
