There's a church near here ( Knights of St Columbus) that has a casino night every Friday. Bingo , Blackjack, etc; They say it's OK to gamble in small amounts. Does that mean it'sOK to kill, but only 1 or 2 people a week? Or to covet the neighbour's wife ( but only on Tuesday) ?

Of course if someone holds the scriptures as a guideline for their life, they will try to find a way to justify their desires with the scriptures. That's just human nature. Neither proves or disproves the scriptures. I have seen people take some obscure science fact and try to justify weird believes with it, but that does not invalidate all science.

But when it comes to the issue of gambling compared to murder or adultry, it should be noted that there is no scripture anywhere in the Bible against (or for) gambling. The one and only mention of it in the entire Bible is where the roman soliders gambled for Jesus' clothing at the crucifixion. While there are scriptures that forbid murder and adultry. So the comparsion is not fair.

Men have done that their whole lives, Men are sinners and in need of redemption.

However we are not to judge each other, there might be more to the story.

Our Knights of Columbus held a Poker tournament last month. The "winners" got items that were donated by other members. All of the money collected and also made at the concession stand went to help a 19 year old girl in the Parish pay off some of her bills during her battle with Cancer.

Things are not always what they seem.

FYI, the Catholic Church is against Abortion AND in-vetro BOTH

Peace!

Please don't be so quick to judge the rest of us by this so call (church). Just because a group of people get together and call their gathering place a church does not make it a church. The Church that I belong to is the Body of Christ made up of Christians not a building down the street where we gather. This is the Church building. And yes the Church building should be a place where Christ is lifted up at all times, not a place to gather and make money for your own self. These people should be carefull. If we read Matthew 21: 12-13 we see how God feels about His House.

Unfortunately, most Christian do not know the Bible, much less know who to apply its principles. It is not OK to gamble at all, it is not OK to kill humans (except in cases of Capital murder where the state does the executing), and it is not OK to do a lot of other things that churches do. God keeps a record of all this, but he does allow it hoping that the pastors of these churches in error will see the light and repent. Churches are made up of people just like any other organization, and people are always imperfect because of our sin nature. Christians---true Christians--- are saved, but we do from time to time make mistakes. God is just to forgive us, but all sin has its consequences, and although forgiveness is give the consequences of the sin can not be escaped. Thank you for posting this question. Jesus loves you.

We all know how you love to beat the church up But at least get your facts straight BEFORE you send a stuipid question like this one.

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

Are you sure that's the name of the church? there is an organization called "The Knights of Columbus". They are a group of men that organize events such as Bingo and craft fairs and other things in order to raise money for charity.
Where in the bible does it say you can't gamble? I missed that passage....

I think that is absurd to do that!
The Bible says what it says for a reason and it isn't meant for us to adapt it to meet our own needs, just because some people don't have the guts to actually do as it says, and to stand on its promises.
I follow ALL the ten commandments EVERY day to the best of my human abilities and when I falter from them it is a sin and I have to ask forgiveness. It is not excusable to lower these standards for anybody.
Be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.......
We aren't supposed to conform to the world's standards to make what parts of the Bible fit, work, but we are supposed to be transformed to fit the Bible

See, there you go, lumping all in to one group based on the actions of others. Not ALL Christians believe that. It is your belief. I believe that since you spend so much time trying fleetingly to disprove the Bible and Christianity that you have come to actually love it and believe it, but you are trying to play up to your atheist buddies. That being the case, using your logic, then I believe ALL atheists fall in to this category. Come on out of the closet Mr Mojo.
