Why does the sound of running water trigger the micturition reflex? Good question.
Bladder function is highly complex. It requires coordination from several parts of the brain and involves both involuntary and voluntary activity.
The links below do not answer your question but give general information. The last link is about pelvic floor exercises (kegel exercises).

Maybe it's because we all mostly use modern toilets and that's the sound it makes because of the water bowl? Maybe in places where they pee on the ground, that's not true? Good question.

Pavlovian response. Your mother probably turned the water on when she was potty training you so now when you hear running water you automatically feel the need to urinate.
