Why do people who go into restrooms and go to the bathroom and then walk out without washing their hands?

I see this all the time especially at restaurants. It is disgusting. You mean to tell me your going to go to the bathroom, grab that dirty door handle and then go eat?

Call me OCD but I like being clean. I ALWAYS Wash my hands whether I'm at home or in a restaurant. And when I leave the restroom at the restaurant I make sure I have that paper towel with me to grab that handle.

I guess that's why I never get sick. It's August and I haven't had a cold yet this year (knock wood).

When you go to the bathroom, do you wash your hands when you are done and why or why not?

I know and it's so disgusting! Like I have friends who don't wash their hands after using the toilet or they just rinse without soap. It's gross and I try to avoid touching those kind of people. I guess it's just the way they're brought up and it sickens me that they're ignorant about such germs. Or they know about them but still don't wash their hands or care about cleanliness. I do the same thing with the paper to turn the handle when I use the bathroom whether at home or in public. I always make sure to wash my hands three times and under my nails as well... you can never be too clean!

(What bugs me too is people who use the bathroom and don't flush or put the lid down sometimes... also people who skip showers and take them every three days, etc.)

I wash my hands after using the bathroom! Also put the lid down before flushing because otherwise the urine and stuff inside splashes on the walls when you flush (I saw it on the discovery channel and they flushed a toilet and in the dark you could see the glowing liquid they'd put in all over the walls and their clothes)!

I always wash my hands after using the bathroom, and I also use a tissue to close the water fointain, and to grab the door handle. I got used to doing this when I started nursing school.
I have notice also in public bathrooms that most people don't wash their hands after using the toilet, It could be laziness or ignorance.

There are some very dirty people around aren't there, I always wash my hands after the loo, whenever my daughter & myself need to go (when shopping) we nearly always wait until someone else opens the door so we dont have to touch it. If there isn't someone around we use a kleenex tissue to open the door.

I definately wash my hands after using the restroom, it would be gross not to.

I work in a medical facility and I hear patients use the restroom all the time and leave without washing their hands. Then I have to touch these gross people.

I would never call you OCD you just happen to have proper hygine skills! Good for you!

I always wash my hands, and I try to be especially meticulous about it in public because I don't want people to say eww about me. Something I thought was funny the other day, someone at work didn't like the smell in the bathroom so they sprayed deodorizer, but then left without washing their hands.

I don't wash my hands in a rest room in public it has so many germs. I use purell hand sanitizer when I get to the table or outside after touching all those germs which I try to avoid with paper towels and my foot. Did you know the hand dryers that blow air never have the filters clean and loaded with germs? I avoid them at all cost look inside one they are gross

Not to sound crass or demeaning, but do you spray the menus with Lysol? You can bet the restaurants never do. I applaud your concern for limiting germ exposure. I, like you, am amazed at what people do/fail to do. I wash. Male,47

Because they are sick, I wash my hands after going and after blowing my nose and before meals(a little much, I know) because Ifind that utterly disgusting!

I don't generally wash my hands. If you don't give your immune system some exercise it will fail you when you need it.
