Children have the desire, but not the skills, to keep conversations going. They are not really looking for why or when or who, they want to keep talking. Just keep the conversation going, don't feel pressured to answer the specific question. And remember, if you end your statement with a question for him, it stops his questions. "We're going to the store. Do you want to pick out the apples?" Trust me, it works and I really enjoy the little conversations I have with my child now.

Oh yes... now multiply that by 12, and you have a preschool classroom full of the same thing! Talk about driving you nuts!! This is perfectly typical, which, somehow doesn't give you a sigh of relief when it is all you hear all day. It gives you such a wonderful feeling when they have mastered a new skill, but after the 5000th "Watch me!" or "Listen to this" or "I can whistle like this!" it tends to get a little on the irritating side. All I can say is, in about 2 weeks he'll have learned another new skill and will be able to irritate you with that one instead of the one he is doing now. : ) In the meantime, take videos to capture all that stuff that you will soon forget irritated you so!

oh, yes. They haven't been in this world very long, so they need to ask these questions to gain knowledge. Sieze this oppurtunity to try and answer every question they ask you- unless if it's just to get into your business- like always asking who you are on the phone with, or what you were talking to Daddy about- those things do not answer, but if it's truly inquizitive things to gain knowlege, answer him. He will learn how to talk from you, and probably know more than his peers because of you being such a great mom. I'm not saying these questions are not annoying- they are, but hang in there for a couple more years- they still will always ask questions, just not so many.

OH my...I have a 3 year old son, and 4 daycare kids...and I'm having a baby any day, I get questions ALL DAY EVERYDAY!!!! The daycare kids are 2, almost 3, 3, and 4 1/2. It's non-stop, Why are you...where are we...when can I...Is the baby coming...When we go...Yesterday did we...OH MY GOODNESS!!! I swear their brains are in constant motion! I have one little girl that is obsessed with my huge tummy and asks me all day about it and if she can see the baby and when can she hold the baby and on and on and on...it's really funny when people ask how I manage to "do it" all day long...I tell them "I just play 20 questions all day, that's all!"

This the perfect age to start challenging them and get their thinking skills up.

When you child says why you need to direct the question back to them. Just simply say "Hmm what do you think it's that way" Even if the answer is off the wall, they are learning something valuable.

with my 4 1/2 yr old it is now "what time is it" every few minutes when I am trying to get things done. He knows his numbers so I tell him to have a go at telling me what time it is. If you answer why and where questions with a question ex. "mama where is daddy?" and your child KNOWS the answer you can say "I do nto know...where IS daddy?" and it slows it down.
