This is really a good question I was pondering the same thing myself, but u know what? People have weight r should i say fat around there stomachs 4 various of reasons most times being poor eating habits. Such as alcohol, eating late @ night & then laying down going 2 sleep right afterwards, eating ice cream late @ night, not excercising, etc... i think that if u change ur eating habits & just move more whether it be running, walking, jogging, swimming, u'll eventually start loosing the weight. Good luck 2 u.

Eat with a spoon and not with a shovel. This is one of the tricks I learned at Weight Watchers. And never ever call what you eat a diet...It is a food plan. Make a sensible plan and stick to it. Eat fewer calories than what you burn. Drink lots of water, and find foods high in fiber. Leave off sugar, starch, and high carb foods. Don't eat any thing WHITE. Don't laugh...think about it! Find a good multi vitamin and take it faithfully. Good luck with the tummy thing.

Hi
Try specific abdominal excercises for your stomach and also try this simple plan so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx

Good luck

ok well first i dont know your staus so its kind of hard but basically just do exercises that target you stomach.

you think eating less would be better but its not. eating less slows down your matablism. the fast it is the faster you burn fat. eating more meals of a lesser portion is the best. lik eat 4 or 5 meals a day .

hope that helps. Good Luck

The only way to lose flab (fat) is by raising your metabolic rate. This encourages your body to mobilise (or "burn") your fat reserves, thus reducing the amount of fat you have on you. Cardiovascular exercises like running, swimming, cycling (basically any exercise that makes you breathe harder and your heart beat faster) are great for this. Some people believe that hitting a target heart rate (typically 60 - 70% of your theoretical maximum) and maintaining that heart rate for the duration of the exercise is key for fat loss.

Unfortunately, you can't tell your body to burn the fat around your tummy first - your genes determine this and no amount of lotion, cream, sit-ups is going to change this. Look at your parents and your grandparents and you'll have a good idea where you are likely to put on weight/fat and where you're likely to lose it most.

Sit-ups are good in a way as it works the underlying abdominal muscles. Do it right and the muscles will tone and firm up, and firm muscles make for a firmer structure on to which your fat hangs. True, you may have some fat there, but because the underlying muscle is less saggy, the overall appearance will be that of a less saggy belly.

Sit-ups are not that efficient though. They do work the abdominal muscles, though as sit-ups somewhat involve the flexing of the hips, it also pulls into action other muscles in the area. This distracts the effort from the muscles that you want to target - the abdominals. Also, sit-ups done wrong can lead to injuries. As the psoas muscles (two muscles running down either side of your spine) are involved in the movement, there is a risk that you may injure your back.

A better exercise to work your abdominal muscles, namely the rectus abdomini (the six-pack) and the obliques is crunches. Lie down on the floor mat with your legs supported on a chair such that your thighs are 90 degrees to your body (a position like you're sitting upright, but on your back). Keep your hands on your chest. "Curl" your body up, bringing your chest as close to your pelvis as you can. It is important that you do not sit up (ie: keep your torso straight and completely lift it off the floor), but curl it up, keeping your lower back in contact with the floor at all times. Pause at the fully contracted position for a couple of moments, feeling the contraction, and then slowly return to the starting position.

You can add different variations to this movement for added interest and to work different parts of your abdominals. Try lifting your bottom off the floor while doing the movement (to work the stubborn lower part of the abs), or crunching alternately to the left and right (to focus more on the obliques - the two triangular shaped bits on either sides of your midsection).

One set of muscles in your abdminals that is crucial for keeping your gut in that is almost always overlooked, is your transverus abdominis. This muscle is like a corset, going round from midsection under the rectus abdomini (the muscle that gives you the six-pack look). This muscle contracts to pull your tummy in. So remember, when you pull your tummy in, it's not the six pack that's doing the work, it's the corset.

Exercise the transverus abdominis by sitting up straight in a chair with your arms relaxed at your sides. Pull your stomach in as far as you can. Imagine that you're pulling your tummy in so much that it touches your spine. Keep it in for 30 seconds and then release. You may breathe shallower when you're doing this, that's fine. Repeat the exercise whenever your remember. The great thing about this movement is that you can do it anywhere - even at work at your desk. So there's no excuse!

In the end, the basics are still the most important thing. Eat sensibly and healthily. Don't eat too little as if you're starving yourself, your metabolic rate actually goes down, which is exactly the opposite of what you want. Do lots of cardiovascular exercise and you're mostly there!

Remember that it didn't take overnight for you to gain weight, so it's not going to be overnight that you're going to lose it in. Keep at it and keep going. Try and make exercise fun and motivating, as an exercise programme not kept to is as good as no exercise programme at all.

Good luck!

Someone said to eat 1200 calories or less a day. That's crazy and downright unhealthy.

See the website below and you'll find out the approximate minimum number of calories your body needs to survive. Consistently consuming less than that will result in you losing lean body tissue, the lowering of your metabolic rate (whilst not losing much fat as a result), and the onset of lethargy and loss of energy.

Beware and be sensible.

You can't target where you lose weight, but you can target where you gain muscle. Do cardio to lose fat, eat more protein than carbs and only eat good carbs like vegetables. Eating protein and doing squats, stairs, ect will make your butt more defined/bigger and it makes your stomach look smaller, do some crunches but unless you want to be ripped don't do them excessively.

*you can't just work out your stomach, you have to excersize enough to lose fat all over.

one in one hand, and one inthe other -keep ur feet on the ground while standing up and move your upper body towards the left and then back towards the right. and do this over and over for maybe a 15 minutes everyday. everntually u start burning the fat there.
i do it...it works! my mom taught me this.
