Exact number showed here this morning, calling my fax line... and I'm in Alberta, Canada.
I've heard that sometimes when you pick up but nobody answers you, that it's a computer test calling to see if a human voice answers and what time of day that happens. Then once it's established what times someone is likely to be home and answering at a certain number, a sales person will call and hit with his pitch, and is less likely to be hung up on than a recorded pitch. anybody else heard about this? Any way to thwart them - like hitting any numbers to throw off their logging?

It was probably a telemarketer on a automated dialer. If there isn't a tm available when you answer the phone the dialer hangs up. Its referred to as a "missed call" and companies are only allowed a certain percentage of missed calls. If it happens a lot they have to slow thier dialer down. They can also be fined and/or lose their right to operate a phone center. If it happens a lot report them.

It was probably a sales call and did not connect completely or the computer did not register someone answering. The area code is from the OH area.

I got a call from this number too.. yesterday. I saw it on my phone when it came in, but I was at work on the phone and didn't answer the call.

I JUST got a call from that number. When I called it, it said the number had been disconnected. Strange.

I got the same call on my cell phone. I didn't answer it because I refuse to answer unknown numbers on my cell.
Telemarketing has gotten out of control.

Try calling them. Maybe they noticed when you picked up that they had the wrong number. You could also try yellowpages.com. Just search by phone number rather than name.
