My daughter turns one in mid-October, which is 2 months away, but anyone with a child knows 2 months goes by like 2 hours. This is my only child, and I want the party to be fun and cute and all those things. Her mom (we are not together) wants Care Bears, but I dont. My daughter's room is mainly Princess stuff, but I'm not sure if I want to stick with that or go a different direction just for the party. Any ideas? Please, PLEASE, no stupid responses, this is my child's birthday and I don't need some ignorant teenager saying "Star Wars" or "Lingerie". Thanks.

You are sweet to want to make a special birthday for your daughter. I still remember my girls' first birthdays quite well, and they're 9 & 11 now. Here's the best advice I can give you:
1. Remember that the first birthday is really more for you and the family than your daughter. She won't remember it later, but you'll have pictures to show her and the cumulation of things you do for her over the years will become a memory.
2. With that in mind, the theme is really not important. Her room might be princess and her mother might want Care Bears, but in the end she'll have her own ideas soon enough. The main thing is to make it FUN for her. Blow bubbles (sure to cause giggles), sing familiar songs (or play familiar CD's), and, of course, have a cake in a flavor she likes and give her a piece to dig into with her hands and face (you simply MUST have a photo of the "first birthday cake mess" or you will be considered a negligent parent later on)!
3. If you must go with a theme, make it colorful and full of fun objects for her to see.
4. Above all, try not to make it too complicated. Keep it simple and spend time enjoying your daughter's babyhood. Believe me, they grow up way too fast!

You are absolutely right in saying 2 months goes by like 2 hours and sometimes like 2 seconds. I would suggest that you both ask your daughter what kind of theme she would like her party to be and you can go from there. It should be all about what the child likes. If your daughter cannot speak (some children can't speak until later) then take her to a toy store and see what kind of toy draws her attention to it so you can get an idea more or less what to get her for her birthday.
Good luck and you sound like a great Father! Kudos to you!
(I'm a proud Mom of 2)

Whatever your little girl is into or likes should be the theme. You could do both, what your wife wants and what you want. You could have Care Bears around in the room and have the cake decorated in a princess theme. Along with the plates and napkins. Then both of you would be happy. To tell you the truth, the little girl, at one year of age really won't care, as long as her parents are there with her. I wish you luck and tell her Happy Birthday.

At a year, she's unlikely to remember any of it. If you two are throwing a joint party, let her do Care Bears. Get potraits done of her that you can send to the whole family and that you can actually show her. A lot of studios will do those portraits with the baby and a cake (essentially letting the baby massacre the cake). Messy and cute.
Also make her her mother promise that you get to do a birthday she will remember (5, 13, 16, whatever).

care bears are very cute but since everything is princess stuff then maybe you should stick with that this year too as she is too young for a change. next year she will be older and more able to choose for her self the theme she prefers. princesses is a nice theme for little girls because they are so similar, it is also so feminine and little girls are so much into this stuff. pink is a colour they have known and recognized since birth.. a barbie theme would be nice too. i know my little girl loves barbie. snow white is a great pick also with all the dwarfs and stuff.. Good luck to you and i wish her a very nice birthday

She is turning one and will not have a strong opinion for several years. The party is more for the adults. Save your bucks for when she'll remember it better. The pictures you take to preserve the memory will just as good without a lot of "foo-foo" in the background. The theme is just not that important IMHO

My god-daughter just turned one last month and we had a Dora the Explorer theme for her party cause she loves Dora. The party should be centered on what your daughter loves, not what the parents want. Decide by her favourite tv show or toy. Cause it is her party and her theme should be somthing she likes.

Do whatever makes her happy. If she likes her room, do princess. If she likes Care Bears, do Care Bears.
Fact of the matter is justa bout anything will be new and exciting to her, so it doesn't really matter the subject matter as long as everyone is there, happy, and she is the center of attention.

Do something that will be fun and give you lots of photo ops. Your daughter wont remember the party so make sure you get lots of great photos.

Generally anything your child recognizes will bring a smile to her face, so what ever she is most interested in now would be most acceptable...make sure she has her own cake (individual) and let her enjoy it....1st birthday pictures are the most memorable.
