Cutting & De-seeding a watermelon:
If you would like to de-seed a watermelon, here's a nice and easy way to do it. This is perfect to dice up into chunks for a snack, use in salsa, mix into drinks or anything else you would use watermelon for.

Be sure to wash your watermelon
and knives before cutting into it.

Cut watermelon in half, then in quarters
Cut through the flesh of the melon along the seed line with a pairing knife. Now, lift off the piece you just cut out.
Using a fork, scrape the seeds from the piece you just removed and from the remaining flesh on the rind.

Quick Watermelon Cubes
Take a quarter watermelon and lay it on the rind with the interior facing up.
Place knife about 3/4 of an inch down from the peak of the wedge. Holding the knife parallel to the far side of the fruit and starting at edge of rind, cut a horizontal line through the fruit all the way down to the rind.
Next, place the knife blade 3/4 of an inch lower and make the same cut. Repeat.
Next, turn the fruit to the other side and make the same horizontal cuts.
And last, starting at edge of the rind, make vertical cuts 3/4 inch apart all the way across.
Cubes will tumble out ready to eat!

Quick Watermelon Wedges
Take a quarter watermelon and lay it on the rind with the interior facing up. Place knife about two inches from end of wedge.
Cut off the curved end of the fruit. Place knife about ¾ to 1 inch (or desired thickness) into fruit and cut straight down.
Repeat until entire quarter is in wedges.

Equipment: Pan large enough to hold the watermelon (things can get messy), big knife (non serrated is ideal), ripe watermelon. You can tell a watermelon is ripe by looking for a nice, good yellow patch on its bottom (means it sat on the ground for a while and had time to fully ripen) and listening for a good hollow sound when it's thumped.

There's more than one way to cut a watermelon, depending on the shape of the melon. The more "traditional" cut is done by cutting the watermelon lengthwise, then cutting those halves into quarters. This should give 4 long wedges of watermelon. Just cut those up into individual "V" shaped pieces, add salt to taste, and you're done.

The "traditional" cut works best for big melons, ones that are significantly longer than they are wide. Personally, for smaller, rounder melon I like to cut it widthwise in half, then slice off a big, circular piece, cut that into quarters, and viola! Repeat until watermelon is gone. Enjoy.

First cut the watermelon with one of the sharpest knifes you have. Use two hands to push down the knife. Now you will have 2 peices of water melon. Now if you want to hold it and eat it you just start cutting with the watermelon part up. and there you go.

If you want it in cubes you do the same thing as before. Then you cut it as you were doing before. then you cut the rim part of it away and start cutting it into little cubes. And there you go cubed watermelon.

Hope this helps.

The simplest way to cut a watermelon is to slice it crossways and then to slice the resulting round slabs into halves or quarters. This method is generally used in a casual setting where people do not mind the juices flowing everywhere. Since the rind provides a handle, no utensils are needed.

The perfect way to cut a watermelon is as follows...

cut a small circle in it and remove the piece.
pour 1 750ml Bottle of Belvedere Vodka in it
Place circle cut out back in.
let sit for 2 days rolling it around 2 times each day.
take circle cut piece out and drink vodka from the watermelon.

You start towards either end,.. most people like to eat out of the end like a bowl so you may want to make it 4 inches or so. After that slice each piece about every 2 inches. You can cut the big circular pieces into fourths (it's easier to eat), or leave them and eat them on a plate with a spoon. If you're serving other people I recommend cutting them into fourths.

use a pumpkin carving set and you can create almost anything out of a watermelon. I have done the baby carriage for a shower and the ribbon on top for picnics. My kids like a smiley face and then you put your fruit salad inside.
