I have medium blond or dirty blond hair. About a 6 on the color scale. I dont dye my hair, but my roots are always 2shades darker making it appear dyed?(About 2-3cm are darker) I find it very unsightly, and hate it when people ask if I dyed my hair blonder. I dont want to lighten the roots, cause I dont want the regrowth to show up even worse.
Should I just have the rest of my hair coloured the same as my roots? Which would be a cool light brown?
Would this be a wise move?
Please tell me if you personally experience this problem, or what do you think the causes could be.

I hate the root look, I agree with whoever said to dye it... It looks cheap and crack head-ish, dirty and unkempt when you have 6 inches of dark roots!

It is almost impossible to exactly match natural colors to dyed colors. I don't suggest trying to match it especially with a do it yourself box dye. Go to a salon and go all over darker and then highlight if you don't want a flat or too dark of an overall color.

Something deep and chocolaty with some reddish/blond highlights sounds nice, but is always depends on your skin tone and your eyes and stuff like that.

Don't try to go lighter. lighter is not as healthy and you don't want to start messing with virgin hair. always remember, going darker adds color making the shaft thicker, coating it more and therefore making for a healthier result. bleaching or lightening is achieved by stripping color and therefore taking away moisture, natural color and health.

If you like lighter... always do it in small increments and through highlighting. dying is a nasty circle... it can ruin your hair and scalp over time especially if you do it yourself!

the lighter ends are caused from the sun, tanning beds, swimming pool water, etc...how old are you? most times trying to color *virgin* hair (hair that's never been colored) is sometimes difficult- if you try to color the lighter ends to a darker shade- the color will end up fading out fairly quick- my suggestion if you *really* think you need to do something is to go to a salon and have them do just a partial highlight on the top and crown area of your head. that way you can lighten up the roots a little and as that grows out it's not a drastically noticeable difference compared to trying to completely color all your roots. You do that and your going to be right back to where you started in a few weeks with the new growth being dark and the rest is lighter from the color...

Your best bet is to do nothing and don't worry about other people- you start coloring your hair it's just going to become a cycle of keeping it up.

good luck with whatever you decide!

If your not happy with it, then definitely dye it. But keep in mind, once you start dying your hair, you will have to keep doing it every 4 to 6 weeks as new hair grows in. I would say dye your hair the cool light brown, would probably look sexy on you.

hair can change from the sun. so, leave it alone and let your hair stay "natural." if, you have to change your hair, do it because "you" want to! maybe think about a reverse-highlight, or "low-lights" this can look a little more natural than an all over color, and hide the new-growth that the sun causes!
