it looks like you guys are just as romantic as women - or are you just saying what you think we want?

Not saying what you think women want. It's what someone real special deserves.
Real special date;
Get her on a scavenger hunt to get her out of the house or to lead her to a restaurant where you would have her favorite stuff ready. Maybe a picnic in the park.
Show her a part of you like if you fly a plane maybe take her up in the air or if you are into hiking, climb up a hill set up a picnic and enjoy each other's company.
If the company is real special, then there's a special date. If the two of you are able to talk and really share things about yourself then that would qualify.
For the lazy guy or the guy who can't come up with anything, if we should happen to find a list and then use an idea from that list, that could qualify. It's not nagging, it's just luck for the guy and the girl.

An obvious response would be "a date that includes wild hot sex", but let's forget about that since it's probably not what you had in mind and it also involves a certain attitude that is not always desirable.
As a general rule, I wouldn't care about the surroundings, the food, the music etc unless it really got in the way. For example, a date in a very bad place can really ruin the fun.
If we are talking about a decent setting (say, dinner in a good restaurant) a special date would be one that included a lively and interesting discussion. Unfortunately, this is not as common as you think. Furthermore, I would expect body language to be equally inviting, in order to convey a mutual interest. This sounds very obvious, but is really the problem in most cases.
Simply put: say intelligent thinks and look interested (and sexy!)

A special date?
What the heck is that?
I do not know why women always want special this, or special that.
What ever happened to just hanging out, and letting nature take its course?
Come on now. Why must a man need to do these things.
I have been single since 1997 and the reason in part is because I hate the date, what do I do to please her, kind of thing.
either you hit it off or you don't.
I guess I am destined to stay single, cause ain't no lady want a rough talking, just let life go attitude.
Sorry dear, but ain't nothing special until you make it special, and both agree that it is.

An informal dinner with drinks and then a late night walk along the water.
Having a formal date puts too much pressure on everyone to look nice and act a certain way, I prefer to be in an environment where both people can be themselves.

well for me, it would something that the both of you enjoy doing, then have a nice candle lite dinner,a walk on the beach or park.even something as little as renting a good movie, and cuddling up on the couch and watching it together.as for making the man want more, just be yourself, and be honest.if he sees that in you he will ask you out again.
