Give up cigarettes. They'll just kill you anyway. Get the cheapest form of nicotine gum or patch you can to help you get through the quitting phase.
Food is cheaper if you cook meals from scratch rather than buying ready-made convenience food. Eating out is enormously expensive. If you have to eat eat, stick to the dollar menu at McDonald's or Wendy's. Stock up on condiments at Wendy's so you don't have to buy them. At the grocery store, "splurge" on fresh fruit and vegetables, to keep yourself healthy. Otherwise, build your menu around what is on sale that week. Use the coupons from the Sunday paper, also a good place to hunt for a job.
To save gas, combine errands. Walk or use a bike whenever you can. Learn where the gas price is the lowest and plan on filling up there, rather than running out and having to pay more. To get better gas mileage, drive smoothly, no sudden starts and stops. Keep to the speed limit. Use air conditioning sparingly.
Most important: get a job as soon as possible!

Are you earning any kind of income? Like unemployment? Because without a job you can't really "save" money because you have to eat. I would suggest quit smoking and try not to go anywhere unless its for job interviews. try taking the bus or walking places. As far as food, buy some bread and peanut butter and eat off of that for a while.

1. Shop at discount grocery stores, and buy things you use often in bulk, when you can.
2. Stop smoking.
3. Walk to nearby places, or take public transportation. If driving, do 55 mph or less to maximize fuel efficiency.
4. Don't waste money on things you don't need: fast food, movie tickets, cds, etc.
Most important:
5. Get a job.

Of those three, all you really need is food. Missionary churches and food programs can help there. Guess you'll just have to quit smoking. Cold Turkey is tough, but once you're free, you'll never have to waste another dime on the stuff again. And park your car. You can drive again once you have a job.
