Exposure and Ritual Prevention (Ex/RP or ERP) has become the gold standard treatment for OCD. Medications can work for some, but others remain non responders. This being said, there are other options, but they show low effectivness and take much time to complete. For example, talk therapy would take a number of years and would likely address your developmental history and avoid directly addressing your obsessions and/or compulsions.

As much as you may not want to hear it, the absolute best treatment for OCD is indeed exposure with ritual (compulsion) prevention. It is uncomfortable at first, but at the end of the treatment you will be pleased with the results.

Cognitive behavioural therapy you can be referred by your gp for this. The idea is to talk through your thoughts and feelings with the therapist and they teach you coping mechanisms and help you alter your way of thinking.Hope this helps.
