She can always try by calling the local head start. But to be honest getting into head start is easier said then done. I live in MO and was rejected because I make too much money. I have one income two dependents and no child support. I believe they only allow you to make around 12,000 to 13,000 a year. But best of luck to her, every child needs preschool, if only for the socialization.

Contact your local Head Start and ask to fill out the enrollment forms. That will decide if you are income-eligible. Head Starts enroll year-round. Some are full year centers that operate 5 days a week all year long. Others are part year centers that operate either mornings 4 days a week or afternoons 4 days a week. They will help you determine your child care needs during the enrollment process. Even if you don't get a spot right away, hang in there, as there are frequently spots available as children age-out to kindergarten or drop out. If the child is turning four, she has a pretty good chance of getting a spot - though it may not be until Dec. Just try - its an excellent program.

it all depends on the waiting list. With one dependent, your daughters income has to be less than $13,079 in one year. It is a great program for parents who can not afford daycare. Also , you should check with your states work force commission and see if there is a program that pays a percentage of daycare. My daughter is 4 and goes to a private preschool at her daycare, she loves it. Best part is...I only pay $90 a month. I am responsible for only 12% of the daycare bill.

The income thing is different in different places. Don't let that deter her, usually it is some type of point system where the more poor get more points, so try anyway. She is not too old. Tell her to go sign up and check it out. It is usually a great program of course it always will depend mostly on the child's teacher.

Pre school tec answered you wonderfully. The head start I work for does take over income eligible children if there are spots to fill. I recommend filling out the paperwork and waiting. Call them once in a while so they know your still interested.
