Try upstate New York in the Hudson River area. Look into Woodstock, a nice laid-back town with cute shops. Check out the Poconos.
Go whale watching in Montauk, LI.

cape cod is really nice. its a relaxing vacation but you can drive there. cute shops great food and really good chocolate fudge lol
or if you want somewhere closer maybe the jersey shore? some parts of it are really nice. my friends got a house there and i love going. very relaxing.

i would suggest going to manhattan iland because its close to new york and to a body of water so you guys can swim but still be close to new york.
