I have been addicted to caffiene for about 20 years, I recently began having panic attacks and was told to come off of it. I began to taper it off slowly and now have been off completely for 5 days. I began to experience nerviousness and have had a little more sistuitus problems that made my throat feel tight. Has anyone experienced these or any other odd things?

I used to get a migraine every time I took a day off from my own business, so I used to think it was stress because I left someone else in charge. Then one day I had a coffee at a shopping center on my day off and another a bit later , I didn't get even a headache that day. So now if I do have a day off, It always starts with a coffee. A friend of mine doesn't drink much coffee but one day they had one just before driving somewhere and he had another driver do something silly, and he said he turned into a total moron and says it was the coffee. Nervousness is a pretty common side effect too. Good Luck with your giving up, I would suggest you drink water with a little lemon squeezed in it to help you cleanse your system and maybe not get too many more symptoms.

Regular caffeine consumption reduces sensitivity to caffeine. When caffeine intake is reduced, the body becomes oversensitive to adenosine. In response to this oversensitiveness, blood pressure drops dramatically, causing an excess of blood in the head (though not necessarily on the brain), leading to a headache.

This headache, well known among coffee drinkers, usually lasts from one to five days, and can be alleviated with analgesics such as aspirin. It is also alleviated with caffeine intake (in fact several analgesics contain caffeine dosages).

Often, people who are reducing caffeine intake report being irritable, unable to work, nervous, restless, and feeling sleepy, as well as having a headache. In extreme cases, nausea and vomiting has also been reported
