Pink has several causes and wearing contacts too long seems to be one of them. There is more than one kind of pink eye, and some of them are more serious than others. Treatment depends on the type and cause. You probably need to see a doctor to make sure you get the correct treatment.

Take it from me....I've had pink eye several times. It will not go away on its own and it cannot be cured by a home remedy. Go to the eye doctor and get the special eye drops. Also, don't even wear your contacts until the infection goes away. Throw away the pair you are using now. Pink eye is extremely contagious and it will come back if you do not discard the lenses. Until you have a chance to see the doctor, I recommend getting some lubricating eye ointment like GenTeal.

Aww, Sweetie. I had pink eye this year & I was in hell. Nothin really works & you'll have it for like a week. You can try a damp rag over it,but the drops from the drug store are ur best bet. Oh, some1 told me 2 put tea bags on it (warm, not hot) a couple times a day 2 draw out the infection. Change ur pillow cases & keep ur eye clean. Also, throw away anything that has touched ur eye previous & after this started. (sucked 4 me, I had 2 throw away all my make-up) I'm so sorry for u

If it really is pink eye (conjunctivitis) you really need some antibiotic drops to clear it up. If your eye was also matted shut this morning- it may actually be pink eye.

Edited to add- it's really contagious too!

Your eye might be infected from your contacts- you really need to see your doctor. Don't mess around with your eyes!

In the meantime- try a warm, wet washcloth.

Hope you feel better soon.

eye girl knows what she's talking about. Pink eye, also known as epidemic keratoconjunctivitis is caused by a virus and is highly contagious. You redness and pain are not diagnostic based on the symptoms alone. Your condition could be one of many things. You NEED to go to the eye doctor for this. It could potentially be very serious. And one more thing....DO NOT PUT MILK INTO YOUR EYE!!!!!!

Your eye may be pink but I'm fairly certain you do not have pink eye. It sounds like you have a problem related to your contact lenses (which pink eye is NOT). You need to call your eye doctor ASAP and describe your symptoms. You should NOT put back in your contact lenses. It sounds like you could have developed an ulcer from your contact lenses and if left untreated, it could cause permanent loss of vision. Call your eye doctor.

you won't get pink eye from wearing contacts too long. pink eye is a contagious disease, you would have had to get it from someone (which doesn't mean you didn't..).
Otherwise, you've probably really irritated the cornea by wearing them too much.. either way, you should get it checked in order to treat it properly. Keeping it will lubricated (duratears, whatever) should help, and pain relief like tylenol would be a good step in the interim.

Someone told me that putting a couple of drops of milk in it will help. She had pink eye and the same day it went away.

You need the drops! It is contagious, everything you touch someone else will pick it up and get their finger in their eye. So, if you don't respect yourself enough to get the medicine to cure it, not only will it get worse, but you obviously don't respect all of us. Do the right thing. Conjunctivitis is contagious!!! See a Dr.
